New school, new beginnings

Chapter three:

The afternoon classes went by very fast. There were so many new people and so much she hadn't learned in her old school that everything went by in a blur for Lou. It was a tremendous relief when she came to her last class of the day and found Billy there. "Ah, Lou, how was your day?" He smiled.

"Both crazy and nice, thank you, but I have to say it's really nice to see a, well, semi-familiar face around here." She returned the smile and sat down at the desk beside him. "Oh, this wasn't taken, was it?"

"Not by anybody who can't find another place. I heard you met Kid at lunch..." Cody wiggled his eyebrows and Lou actually felt she was blushing a bit.

"Yeah, he trashed my lunch..."

"Well, that wasn't how he narrated the intermezzo..."

They didn't have time to talk more, because the teacher Madame Cecile came in and immediately started the class...in French. Lou just stared at her in wide-eyed desperation not understanding a word.

She walked slowly down the gravel-walk towards the parking lot, her high heels buried themselves in the gravel, but amazingly enough she managed to walk with grace. She was dressed in a navy blue, A-line skirt of knee length, creamy white top and a navy blue jacket. Her golden-blonde hair in a ponytail reached below her waist. She was really beautiful, but that wasn't what was first noticed about her. No, despite her plain clothes and hairdo, she managed to look like she had stepped out from a fashion magazine - she had style.

Lou had walked from French class with Cody, who had teased her endlessly about her lunch events with the Kid, but when they came out of the school building she almost jumped when he suddenly shouted after a girl: "Hey Jenny!" Lou looked up and saw the elegant looking young lady ahead of them and immediately felt like a slob herself...

The blonde girl stopped and turned around to grace Cody with a smile and when the distance between them had decreased to a non-shouting one she spoke. "Cody, hello, who is your friend?" Even her voice was nice, Lou noticed.

"Oh, this is Lou, she's the new girl. Lou, this is Jenny C, if you ever have a trouble of some sort, she can fix it, I promise."

"You really do have more faith in me than I have." Jenny smiled. "Welcome to Sweetwater High, Lou, and Cody has a point, you know; if you have some trouble I'd be happy to help. I am the president of the student's council."

"Thank you." Lou had to smile at this nice girl, who made her feel amazingly calm and relaxed.

Whatever the conversation they were about to have, it was interrupted by shouts from the parking lot where there obviously was going to be a fight. Opposite from the four guys from the football team Lou saw a group - or in this case the proper word might be gang - she hadn't seen before, not even this morning when she thought she had noticed them all. They were all boys, maybe five or six, all in black leather jackets with a fire-spitting dragon on the back and they actually seemed to be a bit tougher than the rest of the groups. Of course they didn't have to be students at the school to be in the parking lot...maybe it was some local gang?

"Ah, the Dragonlords are at it again!" Cody smiled excited as they walked over there.

"The Dragonlords?" Lou asked curious.

"Yeah, the guys in black with dragons on their jackets. They are presumed to be the toughest ones in Sweetwater High and maybe even in the town...and always in a fight of some kind."

"Well, this time it looks more like the Lion Claws is the attacking part..." Jenny said slowly and Lou looked at her, surprised at the trace of an edge in the girl's voice.

As they reached the parking lot, Lou found herself smiling when she noticed Kid. He was there trying to hold back a guy from his team, who obviously was very ready to beat the crap out of the guy from the Dragonlords. "Calm down, Simon, you don't want to fight him and you know it." Kid said.

"Get off me, Kid. He kissed Jane, I'm gonna beat him into a bloody pulp!" Simon said frustrated trying to free himself from his captain's hold.

"Who's Jane?" Lou whispered to Cody.

"The red-head over there." He told her and nodded towards the pretty girl on the other side of the ring of people starting to gather around the scene. The girl really didn't seem upset about the whole scene; she was smiling, quite content with herself.

"She doesn't seem very sorry..."

"She probably isn't, she has been after Jimmy since last year, Simon is a fool."

"Jimmy?" Lou let her gaze travel to the guy opposite from Kid and Simon and "Oh, I see..." She said more or less to herself, very well understanding why the girl would want him. He was very handsome, in an almost dangerous way. Tall and well built with brown, shoulder length hair and steel blue eyes. Like the other guys from the Dragonlords he was dressed in black, a colour that suited him very well, and everything about him radiated violence and trouble. He hadn't said a word yet and he just stood there, calm and relaxed, almost amused, which probably made Simon even more eager to fight him.

Jenny walked through the ring of people, stopped in front of Jane and fastened her eyes on the girl. Jane's smile soon faded and she looked a little worried, although she tried to put on some attitude: "What?!"

"The story, Jane." Jenny demanded and Lou wondered how she managed to sound so nice and so intimidating at the same time.

"I can't help if he wants me." Jane smiled triumphantly.

"So you kissed Jimmy as Simon watched?"

"Well, it's not my fault he happened to come around the corner, is it?" Jane frowned.

Jenny didn't answer her, but turned around to face the others, especially Simon. "Okay, Simon, if you still want this girl, you are twice the fool I thought you to be and in that case I suggest Kid releases you."

That was more than Jane could take. "God, you really think you are so much better than the rest of us, don't you?! Newsflash, St. Jean, there isn't a guy in this school who wants an up tied, frumpish old shrew like you."

"Stop it before you make an even bigger fool of yourself." Jenny suggested calmly without looking at the girl.

Unfortunately Kid couldn't hold the struggling Simon anymore, but had to let him go. Simon, blinded by fury and humiliation, threw himself at Jimmy and before Lou had blinked Simon was laying on the ground, clutching his chest in pain. When Lou later thought of the event, she realized that it had been too easy for Jimmy: When Simon rushed forward, Jimmy didn't have to do anything else than kick out with a foot and as Simon wasn't really looking, it easily connected with his chest and knocked him down. Kid sighed and helped his teammate up. "Okay, Simon, now we are leaving. Nice to see you again, Lou, I hope next time will be under more pleasant circumstances." Kid sighed and gave her a nod before he took Simon with him and walked towards the gym followed by the condescending eyes of the audience.

The crowd soon dispersed, most of the people obviously disappointed in the quick end to the fight. The Dragonlords, minus Jimmy, went right past Lou and looked at her in a way that made her shiver in both fear and excitement. *Ok, get a grip, Lou, this isn't the most acceptable guys in school and you promised yourself not to get in trouble this time!* She tried to tell herself. "Maybe we should leave?" She suggested, but Cody didn't seem eager to go anywhere.

"Was that an anticlimactic fight, or what?!" He wined to Jimmy.

"Why bother with a goof like that?" Jimmy shrugged. "Want a ride home, Jen?"

"Thanks, but not in this outfit." Jenny smiled and gestured towards Lou who was still standing a step away. "You haven't met Lou yet, have you? Lou, this is Jimmy."

"Huh?" Jimmy turned around and noticed Cody's company. "Oh, the new girl. Hi, nice to meet you!" He smiled and Lou felt her skin start to blush. He sure had a killer smile...

"Hi." Lou smiled and when her mind finally came back to reality she looked up and saw her bus leaving the bus stop over at the other side of the parking lot. "Oh no, that's my bus!" She exclaimed angry with herself for loosing track of the time like that, but with so much that had happened it wasn't really a wonder if she did.

"Where do you live?" Jenny asked.

"Angel Heights." Lou sighed knowing it was quite a distance.

"Oh, I'll drive you, come on." Jimmy said and started to walk over to the motorcycles in the parking lot and Lou made a quick decision:

"Ok, bye, see you!" She hurriedly said to a puzzled Cody and an amused Jenny before she followed Jimmy to his black (of course...) motorcycle.
