- 13. JAMES4
ANDREWS (ANN NANCY (3) CAIRNS,
WILLIAM (2) THOMAS (1))
was born October 04, 1881, and died December 29, 1962. He
met MARGARET E. HILL 1902, daughter of JAMES HILL and MARY
McDERMOTT.
Notes for JAMES ANDREWS:
Jim and Maggie raised their family on the original Andrews
farm at Bond Head. They both had a great sense of humor
and loved company. a large tasty meal would be provided
at a moments notice.
Notes for MARGARET E. HILL:
A stained glass window has been dedicated in Bond Head United
Church in honor of Margaret. She taught Sunday School there
for over 50 years. On her 100th birthday over 300 people
gathered with a piper, accordionist and square dancers at
Simcoe manor in Beeton. Maggie, as she was known to most,
had a wonderful sense of humor. I can remember going to
visit her and she always had new kittens to show me, sometimes
they were in bureau drawers. Maggie was an only child.

14. LUCY MABEL4
ANDREWS(ANN NANCY (3)
CAIRNS,WILLIAM(2)THOMAS(1)
) was born July 30, 1882 in York County, Ontario, Canada,
and died 1939 in Olds, Alberta, Canada. She met NICHOLAS WESLEY
SHIER.
More About LUCY MABEL ANDREWS:
Cause of Death: Breast Cancer.
Notes for NICHOLAS WESLEY SHIER:
Wesley and Mabel moved to Cereal, Alberta in 1911 and farmed
there until 1936. They endured many hardships and like many
people at that time lost everything they had. Their house
in Cereal had many windows and Mabel had them full of house
plants. She made most of the clothes and had a great knack
for making soup of almost nothing. Heat was kept in the house
by banking up horse manure along the side of the house. They
raised chickens for eggs and meat, supplemented with prairie
chickens and tongue for food. Unfortunately went he depression
hit they had to walk away from almost all of their possessions.
They moved to Olds in 1936 and had
a mixed farm. They then moved to Waterside 10 miles west and
2 1/2 miles north of Olds. They lived in a log house at the
10 mile home. This is where breast cancer ended Mabel's life.
Later Wesley moved 1 mile west and farmed and raised chickens.
Mabel and Wesley were very religious
and belonged to the United Church. On Sunday not a thing was
done for this was the Lord's day. Everyone was expected to
be in church sometimes several times a day. During their life
span they endured many hardships but through it all the children
grew up to be strong and much loved individuals.
This is the history as it was given to me in
September 1998. Bernice Agar.

Clifford used to steal rides on the train hiding in the

scarce in the depression. He went to war on December 10,
1942. He was a gunner and was discharged September 26, 1945.
He returned to work on the home farm. He was engaged to
be married when he was killed in a tractor accident.

pies.
