Assault on Carrion III

Campaign Last Run:

Tenative start date of April 11th, 2005
Planned for monday's starting at 6:00PM

Success rating:

not run yet

Designer's notes:

Structure and rules currently under development, more to come!

Intended to allow players a little more freedom of movement. It is map-based but the movement on the map is restricted to the point that battles will happen regularly and there should be no players left out that week. The primary intent of this event is a good vs evil senario in which good players are defending a C&C bunker and evil players are assaulting from the local starport. It will utilize teamwork as it will commonly feature two players acting as a team to fight specific battles. This two-player team is not locked and will most likely change as the campaign proceeds. The rules for this event are still being worked through.
It was also intended to work in conjunction with a BFG campaign.
Length looks to be 7-9 weeks with 1 battle a week (two the first week)..
The 40K side can hold upto 16 players, and the BFG side can hold 8-12
Tenative costs for participation are $10 per person to enter the campaign.

Prepare for battle!

Campaign Skeleton:

Objectives:
The Assault on Carrion III campaign is going to be a 7-9 week string of battles that represent the fight for dominance over the third planet of the Carrion system. Gameplay is team-based and intended to mix and match many players each week in order to create a unique playing experience for each battle. Also, there are a variety of missions that may be encountered over the 7-9 weeks including standard, raid, and battle missions from the 4th ed. rulebook.

Team-play:
The players will be divided into good and evil sides by the guildlines specified later. Those players will have about 30 minutes each week to discuss and decide player pairings for teams, team stratagies, and army movements on the campaign map. Teams will have a chance to advance on their enemies base on alternating weeks. Hense evil will push forwards one week and good will push back the next week. If an army has pushed all the way to their enemy's home base, a mega battle is triggered for the next week and will end the campaign. If no army gets that far, the 9th week will hail the mega battle to finalize the campaign.

Structure Basics:
Campaign length: 7-9 weeks
Entrance Fee: $10
Available openings: 16 Warhammer 40K slots, 8-12 BFG slots
Location/time: 6:00PM every monday at Crooked Hat Games

Battles:
Battles will consist of 2 man teams (and the occational 1v1 when numbers don't work out). Each player will have 1000 pts to build a army that will fight with their team-mates 1000 pts for 2000 pts per side. The starting force orginazation chart for each player's 1000 pts is:
1-2 HQ
2-4 troops
0-2 elites
0-2 fast attack
0-2 heavy
Armies may only attack forward (towards their opponant's home base). You may attack ahead or attack diagonally. Any army in their home territory may move to any home territory square before attacking forward (this includes squares that are behind where you where the previous week). Any army in enemy territory may not move except to attack forward. This gives the defender a small advantage on his own turf. Each square on the map represents a different battle. Each side will know their battles, but will not know the battles on their opponant's side till they fight in that square at least once. At that point, the battle will be revealed and fought.

Side Assignment:
Players will be assigned to a side each week first by army allignment:
Good= Space Marines, Imperial Gaurd, Eldar, Sisters of Battle, Tau
Bad = Chaos, Tyranids, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Orcs

and then randomly to balance sides. If they had played the previous week, the will be placed where they played last before other players are assigned.

Lines of combat:
There will be 4 lines of combat, with 2 players on each side being able to occupy a square at a time.. Every other round (week) each side has a chance to push closer to the opposite side's home base.

Victory and Prizes:
The side (good or evil) that wins the 40K side is the side that holds the most enemy territories at the end of the campaign. The winner of the BFG side will be the one that holds the most planets. Winning sides for each game may differ. A small prize will be awarded to each member of the winning side and a larger prize wll be awarded to the player/team that has won the most overall battles (regardless of what side he's on). The specific victory conditions and campaign winners/prizes are still being decided on.
IMPORTANT: A player must have played in at least 5 battles on one side to qualify for that side's prize at the end of the campaign. The 'most victories' winner must have simply played in at least 5 battles.

BFG intervention:
Every army needs to have a supply line. BFG provides the supplies for each side. As a result, the more occupied the BFG fleets are, the less time they have to supply their plantet-side troops. Points that can be fielded will be decreased slightly depending on how well your BFG fleet is doing. The more spread out your BFG fleet, the more handicapped your side's army will be. If your BFG side controls 5-6 of the planets, you will only be able to field 950 pts. If they control 7 planets, you can only field 900 pts. Don't worry 40K, if you're doing well planet-side, your BFG fleet will be hampered some too.
Also- if you're handicaped point wise, you'll have a bonus victory point wise towards your current battle. For instance, if you can only field 950 pts, then you get +100 victory pts for that battle. If you can only field 900 pts, then you get +200 victory pts for that battle.
BFG player will have more freedom of movement than 40K. As a fleet admiral, when it is your week to advance on the enemy, you may choose to engage a specific enemy Admiral OR you can choose to attack a planet, in which case the defending side can place whichever general he wants there. Each planet will have different senarios attached to it do each battle should provide a uniquie and fun experience just like the 40K will have.

Bonus!
There will be bonuses both the 40K side and the BFG side can gain that can be captured by the other game. Certain 40K square's hold BFG fleet bonuses and certain planets hold benafits the 40K side.

This is a more involved campaign, but when you get down to the gritty-nitty, it's very simplistic campaign for individual players. More to come... watch for registartion for this campaign at the Crooked Hat table at Adepticon!
