Acrostic: Thanks

Though I'm unsure and too self-aware, I
Hope someone will
Appreciate the discordnate
Noise my soul makes as it seeks a
Kindred
Spirit.

Children

Laughter
running with the wind,
bubbling over.

Strangle the Lark

still its sweet warble
that we not notice
the twisted steel spires
of shattered concrete stanchions,
monuments to old men in bunkers,
announced on the 5 0'clock news
as a pre-emptive strike
to keep the world safe
from the isms collectively considered.
There is no glory,
war sucks.

Untitled One

A child reaches up to his mother
halo in flames.
Burned bodies are just shadows on the wall.

Come See The Blood in the Street*

Come See The Blood in the Street
swirling through the dithyrambic life chant
of bullets ricocheting off the concrete stanchions
of the painted bridge eulogizing the chimra of Raza
fists upraised in Zapatista horror of backs bent to monsters
of illusions illustrated on the 'net

while fetid worms drop from over hung limbs

* Note: The title and opening line were taken from Pablo Neruda. This poem is about a group of people who are using the Chiapas Uprising in Mexico as a way to raise money for themselves.

Untitled Three

Alger Hiss died today
Did he find out what all prisoners know-
That prison is just three hots and a cot
And it is what it is
and what you make it?
And that all days are the same stretching out

into a gray forever
One second sixty seconds one minutes sixty minutes
One hour twenty-four hours one day seven days
One week fifty-two weeks one year ten years
One decade two decades seven years
Given to feed the ego and ambition of a failed President
Who should have joined him but didn't.

Political Satire

Little Billy Clinton,
he told a lie,
kissed Monica and made Paula cry.
When Ken Starr came out to slay
little Billy Clinton fought back,
and saved the day.

I'm still here...

I did not say goodbye
though it has been long
since the breath of your word
or the cadence of meter
have crossed my thoughts
all subdued by the struggle
to release air past diseased tissues
and the echo of my heart
was a green jagged line
blipping across the soft woosh
of air line and the squeak of rubber souls
shroudded in white.

Untitled Four

Invader
coming into my life
to sweep away
safety
and comfort
you clutch at my breast
with sharpened talons
but
I
will
not
abide
you
lodging
within my body
stealing my spirit
out dammed spot
