Best brahmans! Vivasvat was born from Kashyapa in the daughter of Daksha. That Vivasvats` wife was Samjna, daughter of the goddess Tvashta and in this manner predestined to be known as Sureshvari in the three worlds, truly, the wife of the great and glorious sun god, Martanda.

However Samjna, shining brightly from the practise of severe austerity and fully endowed with a form abounding in youthfulness, was not pleased with her husbands` appearance. The circle of the sun god was so formed that by its` brightness it had burnt the limbs of his body and in this case he was not excessively beautiful. It was from fondness she said, `But by no means is this egg dead. And from that the begotten of Kashyapa are thusly understood as Martandas`. Certainly it was that extraordinary innate fiery energy of Vivasvat born of Kashyapa by which he greatly affected the three worlds. Honored sages! Aditya, the best of the shining, produced three offspring in Samjna. A virgin girl and two progenitors. First from manu Vaivasvata was the progenitor Shraddhadeva and then the twin-born Yama and Yamuna were produced together.

Seeing the dark color of Vivasvat thus formed Samjna was not able to endure it and at that time made her own shadow of the same color. Highest brahmans! Magically Samjna appeared to be derived from her shadow and she became Chaya and held out hollowed open hands to Samjna. Smiling brightly she said, `I am saying, what work is to be done by me? `I am standing for your direction. `Oh woman with a beautiful complexion! `You direct me.

Passing time then, the nymph Ashvini became obscured in the form of a mare and going to the northern place of the Kurus grazed on grass! In this manner thinking,`This is Samjna, in the second female companion the sun god produced a son equal to himself at that time. Sages! This master was resembling of the manu produced formerly and certainly was named manu Savarna as it is accustomed in this manner.

Her second son is he who is to be known as Shanaishcara. Sages! The earth-born Samjna at that time truly effected exceeding fondness for her own son and not in that manner of those produced formerly! Manu was favorable of that her doing, but Yama did not submit to it. Vaivasvata Yama, either from wrath or childishness or from the purpose of being faultless, with his foot abused Samjna. Consequently the mother Savarna cursed him from anger, `This your foot will fall off being very much afflicted.

Desirous of cursing her the venerable one did not, but he seized the hair of her head and as a result all according to the circumstances of the event was made known to Vivasvat. Angry at hearing that Vivasvat then approached Tvashta and being seen by him was rightly honored and although emotional from anger and desirous of burning him he was at that time conciliated by him.

As a result his form became illuminated by the coherent brilliance, the most beautiful of the beautiful to see and at that time shined exceedingly! After that having recourse to supernatural means he saw his own wife the nymph Ashvini in the form of a mare and under those conditions because of the brilliance was unassailable by any living being.

Two Ashvini gods were born of her. The best of the physicians were Nasatya and Dasra and in this manner are remembered as the two Ashvinis. They both were born of the progenitor Martanda, one of the eight Adityas` and in them the sun saw her beautiful form. And best sages! She seeing her husband was certainly satisfied.

Yama was indeed excessively afflicted mentally by that action and so by custom Dharmaraja ruled of his people. His brother Shanaishcara has obtained to the state of a planet. Tvashta made Vishnus` wheel from his fiery energy and it was indestructible in battle for he was wishing the end of the Danavas. Indeed, she also the younger sister, the famous girl-virgin Yami, became the most beautiful of rivers Yamuna and protectress of the world. In this manner is understood in the world the manu Savarna. The second son who was manus` brother Shanaishcara gained the condition as being a planet and is honored by the whole world. Who may hear this birth of the devas is a chief among men and in this manner gets freed from calamity and may obtain great fame.
