ityuktvA aSTottaraM mantraM zatanAmabhiranvitam | zivasya rAkSasendrAya prAdAM nArada zAntaye || 4


niHzrIkANaM vipannAnAM nAnAklezajuSAM nRNAm | zaraNaM ziva evAtra sanzAre`anyo na kazcan || 5

Brahma said: `The perfected place of pilgramge is thus named wherein the lord of the blest is borne. I will speak of that power causing all success of men. Produced of the geneology of Pulastya is Ravana. And Ravana having conquered the regions in all directions went to the world of the god of the moon. I was speaking to Dasasya of fighting with Soma: `Dasanana, the service of mantras causes to turn back the battle caused by Soma. Having spoken the superiorly marked mantras, essentially one hundred names, auspiciosness was bestowed on Rakshesendra and Naradas` calming. Doubtful without light and of things gone wrong and variously afflicted by pain and delight, for man it is the protection of auspiciosness in this matter. Besides the undergoing of transmigration, what else is there?

sa puSpakArUDhagatiH sagarvo lokAnpunaH prApa javAddaSAsyaH || 6

dRSTvA smayotphulladRgadrirAjaM sa mantriNau rAvaNa ityuvAca || 8

laGkAgato`yaM girirAzu zobhAM laGkA`pi satyaM zriyamAtanoti || 9

Ravana said, `Oh indeed! What great soul descends to dwell in this mountain? In the mountains there are ways by the means of which lead to the earth and this splendor of the mountains going to Lanka surely extends its truth and beauty.

AlUnakAyasya giriM nizamya vihasya devyA saha dattamiSTam |


tasmai prasannaH kupito`pi zaMbhurayuktadAteti na saMzayo`tra || 13

asiM sa lebhe zazikhaNDabhUSAt siddhiM ca sarvardhimabhIpsitAM ca || 15


maddattamantraM zazirakSaNAya sa sAdhayAmAsa bhavaM prapUjya |


siddhe tu mantre punareva laGkAmayAtsa rakSodhipatiH sa tuSTaH || 16

On going to Lanka he honored the Ganga which in going becomes the producer of rivers like to twisted locks of hair. He honored Sambu, possessor of unimpaired goodness, by means of different mantras and waters of the swift-goer. He gained a sword from the decorated Shashikhanda and fulfillment also and all good fortune and acceptable things. With the sacred formulas given by me for the guarding of Shashi he became well-disposed and was respected. In the accomplished faculty of sacred formulas, indeed the satisfied Rakshodhipati was again travelling back to Lanka.

Consequently, by means of gaining tokens of remembrance and granting both great accomplishment and desires and destroying especially compound wickedness is this landing place praised as exceedingly augmented.
