When you are walking down the street on a damp day and pass a person or family in dishevelled clothing and dirty hair and fingernails, what is your first thought? "What a useless person" or "There but for the grace of God goes me"? The answer you give may will be the measure of your character.

In the United States alone, there are 7.5 million homeless and living on the streets or part-time in shelters. This number does not include the millions of families (working poor) who work hard everyday but are struggling and below or at poverty level. These statistics are shameful for the worlds' most powerful and economically sound nation.

What are the reasons for a person or family to be homeless OR for a family to be one paycheck from the streets?

The reasons are many but let me list a few.
1) Deregulation of the mental heath system.
2) Runaway children feeling alienated.
3) Families unable to pay expenses because of inadequate wages and skyrocketing health care.
4) And some have simply lost all hope.

All of the proceeds will be going to organizations that help families that are in need of food, clothing, and shelter, all the things we take for granted each and everyday.

We will give quartly reports on the amount of the proceeds and to what organizations the preceeds have gone. This report will be posted in the CWOTN Journal. The first report will be in September 2001. This is a true win-win way of giving. We hope that you will find something you like at the CWOTN Shoppe and CWOTN will be responsible for helping those in need with each item you purchase :-)
