The Rustoration
Back to the Chevelle Page
Please let all of the photos load.. it may take a minuite or two but it will be worth the wait.  We did a lot of work and I would like you all the see what we had to do
Sorry about some of these photos, all of these were taken with a Polaroid camara so the quality was not there.  This was before we had the digital camara so I had to scan them, but you should still be able to see enough of what this car had to go through to become the classic muscle car that it is.

Ok here she is with out her top, no it was not a rag top, but it did have a vinyl top.  The owner before us had replaced the vinyl and knew that it was rotted and didn't tell us.  There was even a picture of him and a buddy inside the roof, as well as steel whool and plastic body filler to hid the large hole that once was the roof.  It was rotted about 8-10 inches back from the windshield all across the top.  This is just the major thing that we did to the car, read throught he first Chevelle page to find out more of what has been done to this car
On the right it is hard to see but that is the old roof that we had already chopped off.  On the far right of the roof (left of car) you cas still see some of the body filler that had been used to fill in the hole.

Left is the new roof being welded on,  As you can see we had to use tie down straps to hold it in place as I welded.  This is a factory seam that we melted the lead out of.
This first photo to the right is of me welding the roof down.  You can also see another strap that we had going around the back.  We strapped it down then test fit all of the windows to make sure that they would still fit and seal up well.  We got pretty good at test fitting the roof before we could mount it down solid.  In the far right photo is the car the day before we took it over to get painted.  No glass, no interior and no chrome, but I still drove it over to get painted a few miles away.
Here is is a month later, after the body and paint man did his magic.  It still looked pretty homely but it was not going to be that way long!!  My goal was to take it to a A&W cruise night two weeks from the day that we got it back.  Our painter said that we could not do it.  This photo was taken on Saturday afternoon, by Sunday evening it was all put together other than a few things inside and the front and rear windshields.  Well after a coulple of problems with the auto glass store, I got the rear and side windows back from being tented and the new windshield and back glass put in the Friday afternoon before that cruise night.  Well all I had to do was dust it off and vacuum the interior and off I went to the cruise night!!  I could not belive it, it had been a long time not driving my car, but it was so very very well worth the wait!!  I was a show stopper when I pulled in to the parking lot, this was the first time I had gone to one of these show with my Chevelle and mamy people had been waiting to see it.
Here is a couple of photos of the 350 small block that is in my Malibu.  It has been pumped up a little, but not too much because we built this car to be driven.  This car is a daily driver, and thats what I do, well only in good weather but she gets a lot of miles logged on her.  Thanks for coming to this site and taking the time to read all of this.
