hk0.jpg (14358 bytes) In 1949 The Hong Kong Auxilary Air Force was established. On May 1st 1951, it was granted the title of 'Royal' by King George VI.

This unit was charged with air defence duties and originally equipped with Spitfires, but its role was changed to liason ans support in 1964.

hk2.jpg (16867 bytes) The GFS began operating on April 1, 1993 following on directly from the disbandment of its predecessor, the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force. The GFS maintains a round-the-clock emergency air ambulance and search and rescue (SAR) coverage and provides services to support the work of government departments.

In 1945, there were 4 RAF squadrons based at Kai Tak. Ii included 132 and 681 flying Spitfires, 209 flying Sunderlands and 219 with Dakotas.

hkm02.jpg (13647 bytes) No.28(AC) AQN was formed in 1915. No.28 SQN moved to Hong Kong in 1949 with Spitfire FR.Mk18. It was re-equipped with Vampire in 1951 and followed by Venoms. By the mid-1960s the squadron was flying Hunters. The squadron was disbanded in January 1967.

hkm03.jpg (11223 bytes) The No.28 (AC) Squadron was reformed in March 1967 with different role. It was equipped with Whirlwind. It  was tasked with tactical support for the army . The Whirlwinds were replaced with Wessex. Their service was ended in 1997.

  660 Squadron, Army Air Corps, was first formed in 1943 at Old Sarum and was equipped with Auster fixed wing aircraft. The Squadron served with distinction before being disbanded at the end of the Second World War. The Squadron was reformed in 1969 and was initially equipped with Scout and Sioux helicopters. 660 Squadron had been based at Sek Kong since 1978 and operated a fleet of eleven Scout utility helicopters. The Scouts were used in a variety of roles which includes observation, troop lifting, casualty evacuation and aerial photography.  The squadron was disbanded in 1994.
