Died circa 1796 Monongalia Co., VA.

(5) Andrew LITTLE born about 1725 Elizabeth, NJ; died 18 May 1795 NJ; married to Mary STEWART.

(6) Amos LITTLE born about 1725 Elizabeth, NJ. His will was made 29 Feb 1752 Kent Co., DE and proved 1 Feb 1752. He married to Levina PETTYJOHN, daughter of William Pettyjohn. No issue named in his will.

LOW(E) FAMILY


First Generation

(Se)bastian Van Kortryk was born 1586 in Kortryk, West Flanders, Belgium. He emigrated to the Netherlands about 1615 and settled at the town of Leerdam. The name of his wife is presently unknown.


Second Generation

The children of Sebastian Van Kortryk were:

(1) Jan Bastiaensen Kortrijk/Kortregt/Courtwright was born 1618 Leerdam, Gelderland, South Holland. He settled at Beest (Beesd), near leerdam. He embarked with his brother Michael and their respective families 16 Apr 1663 in the ship "De Bonte Koe," Jan Bergen, Master. Each adult was charged 39 florins, children under ten, except infants, half price. It cost Jan Bastiaensen for the transportation of himself, his wife and children 204 florins, 10 stivers.

He may have been the "Kortryck" who owned a bouwery on Staten Island in 1674. He spent part of his time at Harlem, but is last mentioned there 8 Jan 1677 when he was a witness to a power of attorney given his old friend, Jan Louwe Bogert to Hendrick Jansen Baker, to collect money due Bogert on Brooklyn property sold to Thomas Lamberts.

He died after 1677 probably in New York. The name of his wife is presently unknown.

(2) Michiel Bastiaensen Van Kortryk, aka Chiel Kortright, was born 1620 Leerdam, Gelderland, Netherlands. He resided near Schoonrewoerd, a village two miles north of Leerdam. He resided several years at Harlem and leased a farm in 1669 from John Archer at Fordham. In 1675 he leased the farm of of the widow Tourneur upon Jochim Pieters and Van Keulens Hook. In 1677 he moved to land at Spuyten Duyvel on Manhatten Island. He married to an unknown woman. He was the father of Reyer, Metje, Annetie, Bastien and Aefie MICHAELSEN.


Third Generation

The children of Jan Bastianensen Kortrijk were:

(1) Cornelis Jansen Kortright/Cortegt was born 1645 Beest, Gelderland, Netherlands. He is considered to be the founder of the Courtright family in NY and NJ. On 25 Sep 1669, Nicholas de Meyer sold two farms included in his patent to the brothers Cornelis and Laurens. Cornelis, on 5 May 1671, gave a lease of his part to Laurens for four years at the yearly rental of 400 guilders in grain. Their father, Jan Batiaensen and Bastiaen Elyessen, his father-in-law subscribed to the agreement. Cornelis made his will 25 Feb 1689, proved 18 Mar 1706.

He married 1665 to Metje ELYESSED, the widow of Claes Teunize Van Appledorn and daughter of Bastiaen Eleyssen. She managed her husband's business and enhanced his estate.

Their children included: Johannes Cornelissen, Aefie Cornelis, Annitie Quakenbos, and Laurens.

(2) Hendrick Jansen Van Kortright (aka Hendrick Jansen Van Beest) was born 1648 Beest, Gelderland, Netherlands. He bought land near Stuyvesant's Bouwery 12 Feb 1669, but did not hold it long. He and his brother Laurens moved to Esopus where he married 14 Dec 1672 to Catharyn HANSEN who died in 1740. Their children baptized in the New York City Reformed Dutch Church: Jan Hendricksen Kortright, Hendrick Hendricksen Kortright Jr., Cornelis Hendricks Kortright, Geertje Kortright Schut, Arie Kortright, Antje Hendricks Kortright Dekker, Laurens Kortrecht, Jacob Kortrecht, Jannetje Kortrecht Decker, Pieter Hendrickson Kortright, and Cathereine Kortright.

(3) Laurens/Louwerens Jansen was the ancestor the Readington, NJ LOWE family. He was born 1651 Leerdam, Gelderland, Netherlands. On 25 Sep1669, Nicholas de Meyer sold two farms to the brothers Cornelis and Laurens and Cornelis leased his share to Laurens. His share of the land was the foundation of an ample estate he acquired. On 1677 he was elected as an overseer. In 1727 Laurens Jansen died and his land subsequently descended to his son Albert Low of Somerset Co., NJ who released it to his brother Laurens in 1731.

In 1672 he married Mary, the daughter of Albert Heymans ROOSA and Wyntje Ariens of Esopus. They became the parents of ten children. (see below).

(4) Belytie Jans Bastiannsee Kortrijk/Corteght was born 1651 or 1659 Leerdom, Gelderland, Netherlands and died before 1702. She married 8 Dec 1678 to Jacob Janse DECKER of Esopus, NY.


Fourth Generation

The children of Laurens Jansen and Mary Roosa who adopted the surname LOUW (LOW, LOWE) included:

(1) Annatje Jansen LOW baptized 8 Jul 1674 New York City. She married to Gybert BOGERT (1663-) the son of Louw Theuniszn Bogaert.

(2) Albert LOW was baptized 11 Nov 1676 New York City. He received his father's share of the Harlem property which he released to his brother Lawrence who sold it out of the family in 1738. He married 2 Oct 1702 Raritan, Somerset, NJ to Susannah DELAMATER (1682). They had five children: Marytje Lowe Pettinger, Jan Lowe, Lawrence Lowe, Abram Lowe, and Cornelis Lowe.

(3) Wyntje "Lavinia" LOW was baptized 23 Apr 1679 New York City.

(4) Neeltje "Cornelia" LOW was baptized 20 May 1682 New York City and married 1703 to Conrad Lamberts.

(5) Jan "John" LOW was baptized 29 Apr 1685 New York City. He moved near Readington, NJ in Amwell Twp., Hunterdon County where he was the deacon of the Reformed Church of Readington. His will was made 9 Mar 1728 and probated 30 May 1729. He married to Jannetie "Yannaca" CORSEN. They had eight children (see below).

(6) Gysbert LOW was baptized 14 Aug 1687 New York City.

(7) Cornelis "Cornelius" LOW born about 1691 Readington, Somerset Co., NJ. His will was made 4 Mar 1763 and was probated 16 Aug 1763. He married circa 1715/6 to Judick "Judith" MIDDAGH (1695-1785), the daughter of Dirck Middagh and Catalina Van Neste. They had nine children: Dirck, Marytie, Cathelyntje, Gysbert, Cornelius C., Judick, Jan, Gerrit, and Antje Lowe.

(8) Beitie "Isabelle" LOW was baptized 21 Jan 1739 and married to Abraham Van Vleet.

(9) Lawrence LOW was born 1698 and suceeded to his father's land in Harlem. He died 1755. He married 12 Jun 1725 to Jannetie "Jane" Van Vleckeren, the dtr of Marinus Roelofse van Vleckeren. Their children were Dinah, Marinus and John.

(10) Abrahaw LOW was born abut 1700. He married to Hannah BREWER.


Fifth Generation

The children of Jan "John" Low and Jannetie Corsen were:

(1) Lourens (Lawrence) LOW born about 1711. His will was made 6 May 1764 and was probated Nov. 1764. He married to Geertje ROSA. Their children were John, Gysbert, Henry, Jannetje, Charity, Wynca and Elizabeth Lowe.

(2) Gysbert LOWE was baptized 9 Oct 1714 Raritan, NJ. He married to Persila ----.

(3) Benjamin LOWE was baptized 17 Oct 1716 Somerset Co., NJ. He married to Neeltje "Cornelia" Van Nest. Their issue were: Pieter, Jan, Janneke, Cornelius, Benjamin, Gisbert, and Isack Lowe.

(4) Cornelius J. LOWE was born about 1718. He married to Johanna Jansen.

(5) Marytje LOWE was baptized 4 Apr 1719 Somerset, NJ and married 1749 to Jan KOOL (Cole).

(6) Wenitje "Lavina" LOWE was baptized 4 Apr 1721 Somerset, NJ.

(7) Metje "Mary" LOWE was baptized 18 Aug 1723 Somerset Co., NJ.

(8) Teunis LOUW was baptized 3 Apr 1728 Harlngen, Somerset, NJ. He married to Maayke "Mary" HALL.


Sixth Generation

The children of Teunis Louw and Maake Hall were:

(1) Jan "John" LOUW baptized 2 Aug 1728 Harlengen, Somerset, NJ.

(2) Thomas LOWE baptized 6 Feb 1755 Readington, Hunterdon, NJ. He married 15 Jan 1777 Albany, NY to Geertje "Charity" VOSBURG. In 1790 they resided in Watervliet, Albany Co., NY. By 1800 the family had moved to Brookfield, Chenango Co., NY. They moved to Columbus Town, Chenango Co. by 1810. Thomas made his will 17 Apr 1818 Columbus Town and died 16 Aug 1819. He is buried in the Sherburne East Hill Burying Ground, Sherburne, Chenango Co., NY. His wife survived him and died 5 Nov 1820. She is buried in the same cemetery.

(3) Metje "Mary" LOWE was baptized 21 Mar 1756 Readington, Hunterdon, NJ.


Seventh Generation

The children of Thomas LOWE and Geertje "Charity" Vosburgh were:

(1) Mary Pauline LOW born 9 May 1790, died 11 Apr 1851 Erie Co.., PA. She married 2 Oct 1796 Albany, NY to Francis EAGLES.

(2) Tunis LOW was born 11 Oct 1783 and was baptized 18 Aug 1784 at Albany. He died 24 Feb 1843 and is buried in the East Hill Cemetery, Sherburne, Chenango Co., NY. He married before 1800 to Abigail AVERY who died 1864 and is buried in the Curtis Cemetery, Coln, Columbus, PA. Their children: Francis E., Thomas, John, Charity, Robert E., Polly, Tunis, Moses F., Uriah, Sylvester, Ebenezer, Auby and Catherine Low.

(3) Charity LOW was born 18 Feb 1786 probably in Albany, NY. She died 24 Jul 1879 Oceana Co., MI. She was the wife of George EAGLES.

(4) Thomas Witbeck LOW was born 25 Mar 1791 probably at Albany, NY. He was baptized 30 Apr 1791 at Albany. He died before 1850 probably in Hancock Co., IN. He married before 1814 to Elsie Ann CURTIS They moved to Brown Co., OH by 1820 and to Shelby Co., IN by 1830. Thomas purchased land in Hancock Co., IN in 1836.

(5) Sarah LOWE was born 11 Mar 1793 in New York. She was not named in the will of her father.

(6) John LOWE was born 6 Jul 1794 New York. He married to Ruth SEAMONS (1794-1874). He ran the Lowe Tavern on the Old Sherburne Turnpike in Chenango Co., NY. John died 19 Jul 1878 New Berlin, NY. Their children were: Charity Meyers, Thomas Lowe, and Ruth Lowe.

(7) Female LOWE possibly born before 1790. Reportedly married to Simeon Garner. They are said to have moved to Utah where they became Mormans.


Eighth Generation

The children of Thomas Witbeck Low:

(1) Willard LOW was born 20 Jun 1814 NY. He died 25 Jan 1870 Greenfield, Hancock Co., IN. He married first 13 Feb 1834 Shelby Co., IN to Diantha DRAKE (1813-1841) (see DRAKE family). He married next to Julia A. DICKERSON (1819-1891) the daughter of Alexander Dickerson and Ann Arnold.

(2) Woodbeck C. LOW was born 1818 Brown Co., OH. He married 27 Sept 1838 Hancock Co., IN to Melinda NEAL, the daughter of Benjamin Neal and Delilah Barton.

(3) Caroline LOW born 1810-20. She married 4 June 1835 Shelby Co., IN to Joseph HIGGENBOTHAM.

(4) Female LOW born 1810-20 according to the 1820 Brown Co., OH census. No further record.

(5) Van Renselair LOW 18 Apr 1825 Ohio. He died 20 Apr 1874 Hancock Co., IN. He married to Lillitha or Tabitha MARKS.

(6) Rev. John LOW was born 25 Apr 1827 and died 8 May 1897 Shelby Co., IN. He married to Elizabeth GOSSETT (1821-1886). They are buried in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Hancock Co., IN.

(7) Joseph Curtis LOW was born circa 1829 Ohio. He married 21 Oct 1847 Shelby Co., IN to Judith Dickerson.

(3) Uriah LOW born 12 Mar 1839 Indiana. He died 18 Apr 1914 Hancock Co., IN. He married (1) 29 Apr 1858 to Ellen MILBOURN (1841-1860), the daughter of Richard Milbourn and Eveline Watkins Andis. He married (2) 7 Mar 1861 to Hannah GAMBRILL (1841-1868). He married (3) 25 Feb 1869 to Mary Evelyn ANDIS (1845-1934).

(4) Nimrod W. LOW born 1841 Indiana. He married 10 Mar 1864 Hancock Co., IN to Mary E. FURRY (1845-1891).

THE LYNCH FAMILY OF WASHINGTON CO., VA


First Generation

According to family tradition, Edward (Edmund) LYNCH came from County Galway, Ireland to Philadelphia in 1790 with his wife and several children. His wife's name was said to be Mary FIELDING. In 1795 a lot in Abingdon, Washington Co., VA was conveyed by Jacob and Mary Wills to Edmund Lynch. Edward, a stone mason, was apparently dead by 1815, as the widow Lynch paid taxes on part of Lot 4 in Abingdon that year. The graves of Edward and Mary have not been found.


Second Generation

The heirs of Edward and Mary Lynch included: (1) William LYNCH He may have been the William who married 12 Apr 1783 Washington Co., VA to Mary Lynon or Lyman. She died about 1827 and William was appointed the administrator of her estate. William was deceased by 1853.

(2) James LYNCH

He may have been the James Wilson Lynch who married to Phebe Duncan and had a daughter Nancy who was born circa 1824 in Washington Co., VA.

(3) Eleanor "Nellie" LYNCH was born about 1785 Ireland according to census records. She married 12 Nov 1801 Washington Co., VA to John ANDES (Anders) (1768-1840) , the son of Wilhelm Andess. Nellie died 30 Nov 1853, age 68 years. She and her husband are buried in the Old Shutters Cemetery, Washington Co., VA.

On 6 Apr 1840 she conveyed to William Lynch, Washington Co., VA her 1/8th interest in a parcel being the eastern half of lot number four in Abingdon, Washington Co., VA granted to William Lynch & other heirs of Edward Lynch 8 Jul 1834 by David Campbell, Commissioner appointed by the county court by a decree made 23 Jul 1829 in a suit in chancery wherein William Lynch & other heirs of Edward Lynch deceased were complainants and the widow and children and heirs of Hugh Lynch deceased were defendants. This deed was acknowledged by Daniel Lynch & James Orr, Jr., Justices of the Peace and recorded 18 May 1842 by the clerk of the court, R.H. Lynch.

(4) Elizabeth LYNCH was born about 1795 in VA and died 30 Nov 1851. She married circa 1810 to William FIELDS who died in 1829. They are buried in the Sinking Spring Cemetery, Abingdon, Washington Co., VA.

(5) Sarah "Sally" LYNCH married before 1834 to John LEWIS.

(6) Rebecca LYNCH was born about 1800 in Abingdon and died 1852. She married 28 Sep 1819 Washington Co. VA to William HENRITZE (1819-1851). They are buried in the Sinking Spring Cemetery, Abingdon, VA..

(7) Nancy LYNCH was born 1 Feb 1801 Abingdon, VA. She married 11 Dec 1823 Abingdon to Isaac KREGER (Kriger, Creger), born 1795. He was the son of Michael Kreger and Christina Cope. Isaac and Nancy moved to Bentonville, Benton Co., AR.

(8) Jane LYNCH was born about 1810 VA. In 1850 she was residing with her widowed sister Elizabeth Lynch Fields. She probably did not marry.

(9) Hugh LYNCH sold in 1815 half of lot No. 4 in Abingdon, VA to Francis Preston. This deed indicates he was then living in Hamilton Co., OH and was married to a woman named Milly. He died before 23 Jul 1829 when his widow and unnamed heirs brought suit against the other heirs of Edward Lynch in Chancery.

Rebecca Ann MARTIN, daughter of Col. Charles MARTIN, was born 11 Apr 1730 and died 11 Oct 1827 Monongalia Co., VA. She married to Col. John EVANS born 9 Dec 1737 Prince Wm. Co., VA or 7 Dec 1738 Fairfax Co, VA. He moved to Monongalia Co., VA by 1770 and died there in 1834, age 96 years. His will proved 1834 names sons Rawley, John, and Annaray Evans wife of his son Dudley Evans. Trying to link our Ellen "POLLY" EVANS who married before 1784 to Zadock MORRIS of Monongalia Co., VA to Col. John EVANS. Believe she may have been the daughter of Rawley EVANS as the given name Rawley is repeated in later generations of the Morris family.
