First Generation

Johan VanWie married to Jannetje ---- from Bommel, Netherlands.


Second Generation

The son of Johan VanWie and Jannetje was

(1) Harmen Janse van Bommel born 8 Mar 1648 Bommel, Netherlands, died 1721. He married 3 Jan 1675 Albany, NY to Lysbeth Janse Bogaert born circa 1659 Leerdam, Holland, christened 3 Jun 1659 Schoonrerwoerd, Holland, died Apr 1732 Red Hook, Dutchess Co., NY, daughter of Jan Laurens Bogaert and Cornelia Ann Evartse. He reportedly served in the navy of the Netherlands and was severly wounded in the Battle of Solebay 25 Jul 1665. Upon his recovery he came and settled at Albany, New York.

The first mention of Harmen Janse van Bommell in America appears in the Albany records when he was a witness in a lawsuit 6 Apr 1680. He is called Van Bommel in the records of the city of Albany, in the Court Minutes and in the Dutch Church register.

The surname is found written as Knickerbakker and Knickerbocker.


Third Generation

The children of Harmen Jansen and Lysbeth Janse Bogaert were:

(1) Johannes Harmenson Knickerbocker born 16 Mar 1678 Rennsselaerwyck, Albany, NY; died 10 May 1749. He married 19 Oct 1701 to Anna Quakenbos.

(2) Laurens Knickerbocker baptized 1 Jan 1686 Rennsselaerwyck, Albany, NY; died 20 Sep 1766. He married 1707 to Marike Dyckman.

(3) Jannetje Knickerbocker born about 1687. She married first 22 Jun 1704 to Hendrick Lansing, Jr. and second 6 Mar 1709 to Anthony Bogardus.

(4) Cornelius Knickerbocker baptized 2 Sep 1688 Rennsselaerwyck, Albany, NY and died before 1692.

(5) Cornelius Knickerbocker baptized 6 Jan 1692 Rennsselaerwyck, Albany, NY. He married about 1721 to Joanna Schut and died 30 Mar 1776.

(6) Cornelia Knickerbocker baptized 21 Jul 1695 Rennsselaerwyck, Albany, NY. She married about 1715/17 to Jan Vosburgh, son of Jacob Abraham Vosburgh and Dorothea Janse Van Alstyne. (see VOSBURGH and VAN ALSTYNE families).

(7) Evert Knickerbocker baptized 3 Sep 1699 Rennsselaerwyck, Albany, NY. He died after 1755. He married 23 May 1725 Albany, NY to Geertruy Vosburgh.

(8) Pieter Knickerbocker baptized 19 Apr 1702. He married 16 May 1725 to Neeltje Freer.


Fourth Generation

The children of Evert Knickerbocker and Geertruy Vosburgh included:

(1) Elizabeth Knickerbocker baptized 21 Aug 1726 Reformed Church, Linlithgo, Columbus, NY.

(2) Dorothe Knickerbocker born 1729 Kinderhook. She married 9 Nov 1750 Germantown, NY to Petrus Vosburgh baptized 13 Feb 1725 Kinderhook, the son of Marten Vosburgh and Eyte Van Buren.,

(3) Cornelia Knickerbocker baptized 11 Jun 1733 Reformed Church, Linlithgo, Columbus Co., NY. She married 14 Feb 1755 The Flats, Reyn Becck, Dutchess Co., NY to Isaac Vosburgh baptized 7 Sep 1731 Kinderhook, Columbia Co., NY. (see VOSBURGH family).
