BLANCH FAMILY

First Generation

Thomas BLANCH of Tanner's Creek on Elizabeth River, Norfolk Co., VA was born about 1600 in England. He arrived in Virginia before 1652 and possibly as early as 1620. A Thomas Blancks purchased the rights of Ann Saxton to 450 acres in Norfolk Co. on Elizabeth River to which patent was issued to Saxton and White 31 Mar 1653. This was probably Tanner's Creek area.

Thomas Blanch made his will 29 Jun 1674 which was proved 15 Feb 1674/5 leaving his estate to his wife Elizabeth to be distributed to his three children at her death.

15 Feb 1675/6 John Etheridge, Marmaduke Etheridge and Thomas Norcutt were ordered to take Thomas Blanch's orphans into their keeping.

The will of Thomas Etheridge dated 9 Nov 1671 and probated in Norfolk Co., VA on 16 Dec 1671 (Book E, p.109) shows bequests to his three grandchildren, the three children of ye (Tho?) Blanch.

Elizabeth, the second wife of Thomas BLANKS is reported in "The Outlaw Family of Virginia" by Benjamin C. Holtzclaw (Historical Southern Families, Volume XVI (1971), p. 161 etc.). She may have been sister of Thomas LAMBERT, and was born between 1603 and 1610. After 1624 she married Capt. John SIBSEY (c 1600-1652) by whom she had a daughter Mary who married Richard CONQUEST. Before Dec 4, 1660 she was married to Capt. Benjamin TRENNEMAN who died in 1668. Elizabeth had a daughter born after 1652, probably about 1668 who took the name of Hannah BLANCH although she may have been a posthumous daughter of Capt. TRENNEMAN. When Elizabeth BLANKS died in 1681 she left bequests to the children of Hannah BLANCH and Geo. IVY who were her grandchildren but nothing to her BLANCH stepchildren.
