The history of the Waggoner family is a microcosm of the history of our nation. Waggoners settled in tidewater Virginia and became planters in colonial times. They followed the Great Wagon Road south through Virginia and into the Carolinas. From early times, Waggoners were in the vanguard of the Westward movement of American history, and they were pioneers well into the latter half of the 19th century. The Oregon Trail took Waggoners west where they settled in California. Later, among other places, they settled in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.

My mother is a Wagner and I am helping her add more info to our family tree. We have Wagners on two sides of the family. We are descendants of Frank Wagner and Heinrich Wagner. William H. Waggoner was born on August 15, 1834 near Louisville, Kentucky. He was a wagoner with Company B, 7th Iowa Cavalry Regiment from 1862 to 1865. He was married to Catharine W. Hoover on April 5, 1861 and moved with the family to Arkansas in 1888. William and Catharine Waggoner had six sons, amongst them Robert and Daniel. Their daughter, Mary Waggoner, outlived her three husbands, Gus Wenzel, J. G. Jacobs, and W. J. Hughes. William H. Waggoner died on January 27, 1918.
The Waggoner Family Papers were donated to Special Collections by Irmadine Doss of Rose Bud, Arkansas, on January 23, 1996. The Waggoner Family Papers contain correspondence, financial and legal papers, miscellaneous family documents, newspaper clippings, photographs, autograph album, and three monographs. Processed by Vera Ekechukwu, February 1996. Special Collections Division, University of Arkansas Libraries, Fayetteville, Arkansas.
JACOB PETER WAGONER (son of Lt JOHANN PETER and ANNA (BELL) WAGNER) was born 11 Mar 1797 probably at Ft. Wagner near Nelliston. He and his wife raised eight of their ten children in the Mohawk Valley. Sometime after son David was born, they migrated north to Jefferson County as did many of their friends and neighbors, settling in the town of Clayton, where Mary Martha was born. Jacob Peter died 26 Apr 1863 Alexandria Bay NY; and is buried in the Walton Street Cemetery there.
I am researching a number of different ancestoral family lines, including my own surname, WAGGENER. The most distant ancestor in that line that I have so far is JOHN WAGGENER, who was born in Abt 1643 in England, died in 1716, and married RACHEL WARD. The group of WAGGENER's from which I descend, for the most part emmigrated from Virginia to Kentucky, and later to Missouri, Texas, and Michigan. I am of course interested in any ancestoral information on JOHN and/or RACHEL.
