| The Iron Brigade by Alan T. Nolan- One of my favorite books of all time. It is the best source for information about the Iron Brigade. The Gettysburg Campaign: A Study in Command by Edwin B. Coddington-Considered the definitive source on the Gettysburg Campaign by many, despite slight biases from the author. Stone's Brigade and the Fight for the McPherson Farm by James J. Dougherty-I have never read the book, but I know many people who have. They say it's a great book, and I believe them. Towards Gettysburg: A Biography of General John F. Reynolds by Edward J. Nichols-The only noteworthy biography of John F. Reynolds. It is available at Amazon.com but is a bit pricey. Covered With Glory: The 26th North Carolina at Gettysburg by Rod Gragg- A gem of a book. It's only realtion to the First Corps is that it provides information about the Confederates who attacked the Iron Brigade on July 1st, 1863. Gettysburg-The First Day by Harry Pfanz- I finally read this book, and it was fully worth the investment. Chancellorsville by Stephen W. Sears- A highly readable book about the crucial campaign in the spring of 1863. Although the 1st Corps saw little action during the battle, it is of interest to any Civil War buff. The First Day at Gettysburg: Essays on Confederate and Union Leadership edited by Gary W. Gallagher- This isn't the best bok in the world, but it does have some interesting essays. This book is worth reading, but only if you don't have anything better. To the Gates of Richmond: The Peninsula Campaign by Stephen W. Sears- A highly detailed text by Sears, who also wrote Chancellersville. I find the book a delight to read, although the maps are not as good as those found in Chancellorsville. |
