Priscilla Cummings

Seventh-grader Claire and her friends have accused Mr. Mattero of sexual abuse, but eighth-grader Melody Mattero knows her father is innocent. In alternating voices, Claire and Melody share their tragic experiences as the investigation unfolds. This was well-written and interesting, and touched on many realistic teen problems (eating disorders, divorce, absent parents, destructive friendships and of course, sexual abuse). It was a bit heavy-handed getting all those elements into the story, but it definitely left plenty for contemplation or discussion. This is an excellent example of what happens when you don't think through your actions. Highly recommended.
