Staff Book Reviews

cover art from Rosa Rosa
Nikki Giovanni

This moving picture book was just recently named a Caldecott Honor Book and even got a plug in NEA Today. Giovanni breaks from the Rosa Parks Legend (Mrs. Parks always said her feet were no tired than usual) and tells the true significance of Mrs. Park's quiet, dignified stand for justice. Collier's collage-type illustrations are striking. This book is a touching tribute to Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights Movement. This is a must have for elementary and middle school libraries, and would also have significant value in the high schools. Our reading and history teachers were enthralled by the book. BUY THIS ONE!!! Highly Recommended.
