Heroes and She-roes: Poems of Amazing and Everyday Heroes
Short poems commemorate well-known and lesser-known people who have done extraordinary things. From the
elementary classroom teacher to famous names in politics, sports and history, this book shows that heroes
can come from everywhere, and that many things make a hero. Each tribute includes an illustration, a
short poem and a paragraph describing the heroic activities. Controversy may arise with the inclusion
of Lady Godiva, who chose an interesting way to protest taxes, and possibly the descriptions of the fates
of Joan of Arc and the assassinated child laborer Iqbal Masih. Still, this book includes valid reasons
for all of these heros and she-roes to be lauded, and is a moving tribute to heroism. Recommended.
