Choosing a Dragon
The best way to find a healthy dragon, is to visit a local pet or reptile store, or to find a breeder in your area. Reptile shows are also a good idea, where keepers usually take a variety of different reptiles to sell. When choosing your dragon, it should meet all the criteria listed below. The lizards eyes should be clear, and should be open when you hold the animal. Avoid lizards with cloudy mucus, which could mean they have an eye infection. The lizards hip bones should not be visible, which means that they are underfed or ill. The tail should be fat, not thin and bony, as well as neither missing nor regrown. Watch as the lizard breathes, you should not hear any wheezing or gurgling sounds, which is probably due to a respiratory infection. There should not be any ticks or mites on the ears, or any other parts of the body. A lizard should ALWAYS be alert, and should try to run or slither out of your hand when you pick it up. Also check the terrarium that the lizards are being kept in. It should be clean and uncrowded. Every lizard in the enclosure should look healthy, well-fed, and alert. Sick lizards housed with healthy lizards usually spread infection and/or disease. The lizards water bowl should be clean, besides the rest of the enclosure being in good condition.
When looking for a healthy dragon, choose a bright and alert dragon, like this one.
