A great day of ultimate and some tough competition left the pools wide open.  Rio Americano never showed up... so that was a bummer.  That moved Ganas up one seed into 3rd place in the A pool.  Granada played exceptionally well, and with 8 players they couldn't have done much better.  Bitney Springs had great spirit all day and made some great plays.  Ganas was playing in it's first tournament ever and they really learned a lot during the day and by the end of the day were a completely different, and for that matter, better, team.  In the B pool things went a little differently.  An impressive Tsunami Salami team from San Jose came away with the top seed after a very close game with MUD.  Castro Valley lost a tough one to MUD which dropped them all the way down to the 3rd seed.  Santa Monica had good spirit, especially for only having 8 players also, and it was great to have them from such a far distance.  Now I didn't get to see all of the final placement games, but I heard there was tough competition all around.  Because Rio never showed up, the Red Hand graciously gave a bye to themselves to let Santa Monica play another game.  So, in the battle for 6th place, the team from Santa Monica/LA came away with the victory.  In The 3rd/4th place game it was MUD vs. Bitney Springs, two teams that came from the same area and knew each others strengths and weaknesses.  After a long fought game MUD came away with 3rd place, not to mention the spirit award, and began to prepare for the All-Star game.  Now the best game of the day in my opinion was a hard fought game for the trophy between Granada High and Tsunami Salami.  Granada was getting tired with only one sub and it showed.  Tsunami took advantage of this with some subs and great heart, not to mention superb handling skills to come away with the win.  It was a great day of fun.  We look forward to seeing all the teams again at JUST-CA (Juniors Ultimate State Tournament) at the end of this spring.
