CHARLES VAN SANDWYK
--The (almost) official web site
Why is this an "almost official" web site?
Charles has some qualms about becoming involved with electronic media and computers. He is a craftsman of the old school who paints in a manner reflective of a slower and more gentle time. His lithographs are made on a press that was built in 1870. He does his own framing and many of these frames have been personally hand restored. His pace of work is slow and deliberate and the emphasis is on quality. The manner in which his work is presented to the public is equally important to Charles and he feels that this is inconsistent with the speed and easy access of the Internet.
Then why become at all involved in something that you object to?
Good question. The problem is that there is already quite a bit of material currently available about Charles on the Web. Some of it is inaccurate or outdated. People who are interested in seeing or purchasing Charles' work are becoming frustrated and led down blind alleys by the information that is currently out there. For this reason he has given permission to his friend Michael Sims to host this web site. Please feel free to browse and enjoy the work. If you want to contact Charles please write him a real letter and put it in an envelope. His address is:
