Update from Wes Hales
I entered Basic Cadet Training at the Air Force Academy just a few weeks out of high school. After my first two years at the Academy, I left to serve a mission in Quebec, Canada for two years. Following the two years in Quebec I went back to the Academy to finish up my last two years and pursue a commission as an Air Force officer. Some of the highlights of my Academy experience included freefall parachute jump school, soloing in the glider program, attending a semester at the French Air Force Academy during my senior year, and earning a BS in Operations Research (minors Math and French). Out of the Academy I got a grad school slot to pursue an MA in French. I lived and studied for two years in France. Tami and I were married after I'd been there for 6 months and we spent the rest of our time there exploring Europe while Tami held a position at the US Consulate and I worked on my Master's degree. We managed to see Belgium, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland where I ran my first marathon in Dublin on Halloween of 2000. Upon return from France, I was stationed at Columbus AFB for pilot training, which I completed in December of 2002. My first operational assignment is as an instructor pilot flying the T-38C right back here at Columbus AFB. Tami and I will be here for the next three years. Our first little one (a girl!) is due August 9th.
