DIED SUNDAY ON JENNIES CREEK
PROMINENT CITIZEN AND MERCHANT
PASSES AWAY AFTER LONG
ILLNESS;
WIFE DIED 5 YEARS AGO.

N. Jack Rice died at his home on Jennies Creek at the mouth of
Lick Fork Sunday morning, after an illness of several months
duration from heart trouble.

Mr. Rice for many years has been engaged in the mercantile
business at the mouth of Lick Fork and was conducting a store at
the time of his death.  He was 74 years of age.  His wife had
preceded him in death five years ago.

"Jack" Rice, as he was familiarly known was one of the good men
of Johnson county and a man who was trusted by his many friends.
In his passing the county loses one of its best citizens whose
place would be hard to fill.  To know him was to honor and
respect him.

Mr. Rice was prominently connected and leaves many relatives
thru-out the county.  In his immediate family, he is survived by
one son, John R. Rice, of Portsmouth, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs.
Mitchell Hall, of Frankfort Ky., Mrs. Clyde Preston and Mrs. Bert
Watkins of West Van Lear; two brothers, Charles Rice of
Hagerhill, Ky., and Samuel Rice, of Columbus, Ohio; three
sisters, Mrs. Sarah Rice, of Ashland, Ky., Mrs. Ellen Conley, of
Staffordsville and Mrs. Elizabeth Conley of East Point, By.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday and were in
charge of Rev. H. b. Conley of this city and Rev. Cull(??) Hager
of Thealka, Ky., in the presence of a large gathering of
sorrowing relatives and friends who had gathered to pay their
last respects to this good man.

Interment was made in the family cemetery near the old home.
