John M. Rice of Lindsay Passes

(In part) John M. Rice was born November 23, 1869 and died June 13, 1929, age 59 years, 
6 months and 21 days. One August 10. 1899 he was united in marriage to Martha Waggoner. 
To this union was born 6 children, one of whem has preceded him in death.

For some time he had been in very poor health and last Wednesday he under went a serious 
operation at the Kings Daughters Hospital. He survived the anesthetic, but 48 hours later, 
passed peacefully into that Haven of rest with comforting words t the sorrowing family and 
a beautiful description of the Great Beyond as he lingered on the threshold.

He was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Lindsy in 1921, and has 
remained a faithful member and a constant worker in the church until his death, living a 
faithful christian life, loved by all who knew him.

A funeral service was conducted at the home by Rev. C. H. Peters Saturday afternoon (with) 
beautiful singing by the Grayson choir. He was the taken to Beech Grove cemetery and while 
the mellow sunlight of late afternoon was wanning, he was laid to rest, Mr. Holcomb, as 
undertaker, and his fellow members of the I. O. O. F. officiating.

Besdies his five children, he leaves to morn his passing, a wife, four sisters; Mrs. Thomas 
Menix of Protsmouth, Ohio, Mrs. G. W. Fitch of Mobile, Alabame, Mrs. M. H. Pennbaker of 
Morris, Minnesota, and Mrs. W. E. Everman of this county; two brothers, A. M. Rice of Ironton, 
Ohio and Thomas Rice of Ashland, Ky., one brother hvaing preceded him in death, and a host of 
other relatives and friends.

He has departed and we shall miss him. In our home there'll be a vacant chair; but in faith 
we know we shall meet him in that land, free from pain and care. How sweet to know, when 
life's work is o'er, and he is laid to rest beneath the sod, that he rests on that happy 
golden shore, beneath the smiles of an immortal God.
