George Rice Jr. 

METROPOLIS, Ill.--Services for George A. Rice Jr., 80, of 
Metropolis will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist 
Church, where he was a member. Dr. Lynn Shurley will 
officiate. Burial will be in Metropolis Memorial Gardens. 
Mr. Rice died at 4:32 p.m. EST Sunday in Naples, Fla. 

A native of Vanceburg, Ky., he retired as president and 
chief executive officer of Electric Energy Inc. of Joppa. 
He held degrees in mechanical engineering from Georgia 
Institute of Technology and the U.S. Merchant Marine 
Academy and was a registered professional engineer in 
Illinois. He was past president of the Metropolis Chamber 
of Commerce and a member of Prime Movers Committee and 
Fuel and Ash Utilization Sub-committee of the Edison 
Electric Institute, the Paducah chapter of the American 
Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Economic Development 
Committee of Illinois Chamber of Commerce, the Metropolis 
Area Industrial Committee and the Metropolis Rotary Club 
and a board member of the Massac County Community Chest. 

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Catherine Wilhide Rice; 
two daughters, Catherine Trampe of Metropolis and Susan 
Wetherington of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two brothers, John 
Rice of Camarillo, Calif., and Harold Rice of Coronado, 
Calif.; three sisters, Ruth Williams and Jeanette Rice, 
both of Laguna Woods, Calif., and Bertha Mae Dopp of 
Glenville, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. 
His parents were George Artemus Rice Sr. and Pansy Marie 
Mavity Rice. 

Friends may call after 6 this evening at Aikins-Farmer 
Funeral Home of Metropolis and after 9 a.m. Saturday at 
the church. 

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions

Metropolis, IL 62960.
