Eunice Rice 1923-2003 Ethel "Eunice" Hughes Rice of Catlettsburg went to be with the Lord on Feb. 21 at Kingsbrook Care Center in Ashland. She was 80 years of age. Mrs. Rice was born Jan. 6, 1923 in Boyd County, a daughter of the late Frank and Stella Malloy Hughes. She worked at Kentucky Farmers Bank and Iris Dress Shop and was a member, former Sunday school teacher and choir member at Catlettsburg Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Donna House and husband Grady of Catlettsburg, and Jeany and her husband Steve of Eldorado, Ohio; one brother, Henry V. Hughes and his wife Kay of Ashland; two sisters, Frankie Berry and her husband Bill of Catlettsburg, and Garnet May and her husband Darwin of Ashland; four grandchildren, David House and his wife Lilli of Coral Gables, Fla., Mark House and his wife Trichel of Flatwoods, Kelly Ott of Eldorado and Bradley Ott of McLeansboro, Ill. and his fiance Janet Swihart of Lewisburg, Ohio. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Shelby, Mika, Brianna and Joshua House. Beside her father and mother, Mrs. House was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Ralph W. Rice, and one brother, Curtis Hughes. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. A message of comfort will be delivered by Roger Branham assisted by J.C. Skaggs, with committal prayer by Harold Berrian Jr. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends is today at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catlettsburg Freewill Baptist Church, 3700 Valley St. or Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave., Ashland.
