Ernestine Rice 

Ernestine Rice, 80, of Evansville, passed away at her home on Wednesday, 
June 11, 2003, with her children at her side.  
Ernestine was born in Grandview, Indiana, and as a child her family 
moved to Evansville, where she attended Culver School, and graduated from 
Bosse High School. Following high school she entered Lockyear Business 
College and graduated in 1940 with a business degree.She had worked as a 
bookkeeper and worked in production during most of her adult life. She 
retired from Whirlpool Corp. in 1985 and had worked at George Koch and Sons, 
prior to being at Whirlpool Corp.She was a member of IUE-CWA Local 808. 

Ernestine is survived by her children and grandchildren around whom she 
planned most of her life activities; daughters, Janine A. Young and her 
husband, Gary, and Jennifer L. Barron and her husband, Steve of Evansville; 
her sons, Jerry and his wife, Pat of Owensboro, Kentucky; Robert L. and his 
wife, Julie, and a son Norman D. Rice, all of Evansville, survive, in 
addition, a sister, Sharon Byam of San Jose, California; and a brother, 
Jerry Layman of Evansville; eight grandchildren, Scott and and his wife, 
Barbie Rice of Goshen, Ohio, Neal and and his wife, Amy Rice of Greenville, 
North Carolina, Aaron and his wife, Jackie Rice of Loveland, Ohio, Mark and 
and his wife, Kimberly Rice of Owensboro, Kentucky, Gariann and her husband, 
David Robinson of Evansville, Olivia Barron and Aleise Barron, both of 
Evansville, and Tyler Rice of Omaha, Nebraska; and five great-grandchildren, 
survive. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Agnes (Egnew) Layman; a 
son, Gary A. Rice; two sisters, JoAnn Jackson and Marcene Acuff; and three 
brothers, Bernard, Bill and Kenneth Layman. 

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13, at Ziemer Funeral Home East 
Chapel, 800 South Hebron Avenue, with Rev. Jerry Rice officiating. Burial 
will be in Park Lawn Cemetery. 

Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. today, June 12, and continued on Friday, June 13, 
from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions 
may be made to Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice.
