Emmett Rice Jr. 1930-2003 Emmett Rice Jr., of Shute Street, Ashland, Ky., passed away April 8, 2003, at his residence. He was 73 years of age. Mr. Rice was born March 22, 1930, in Catlettsburg, Ky., a son of the late Emmett and Hazel Mae Johnson Rice. He was a carpenter for the Ashland Board of Education, retiring after 23 years of service, and attended Twin Fork Church of the Nazarene. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Genny Virginia May Burgess Rice; one son, Curtis Emmett Rice and his wife, Elizabeth, of Catlettsburg; one daughter, Brenda Kay Yates and her husband, Robert, of Catlettsburg; two grandchildren, Amanda Kay Damron and Curtis Emmett Rice Jr.; and one great-grandson, Curtis Emmett Rice III; four nieces, Hazel, Alice, Carolyn and Emma Jean; and two nephews, Clyde and Mike. Besides his father and mother, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Gene Rice and Bobby Rice, and by four sisters, Gladys Yates, Deloris Workman, Marie Gold and Betty Hammonds. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg and officiated by Pastor Bert Ferguson. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery in Catlettsburg. Visitation for family and friends is tonight, April 9, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The Daily Independent Online 04/09/2003
