Augustus 'Gussie' Rice, 85

Augustus "Gussie" Rice, 85, La Grange, died Wednesday, 
Jan. 16, 2002, at his home.

He was born August 27, 1916, in Harlan County to the 
late Minta Wilson and Jefferson Rice.

He was a retired sales representative for Commonwealth 
Life Insurance Co., a member of DeHaven Memorial Baptist 
Church, a charter member of Oldham County Country Club 
and a golfer.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, the former 
Catherine Rockwell; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and 
Judi Rice; a sister, June Caywood; and a grandson, John 
Robinson.

Services were Saturday, Jan. 19, at Arch L. Heady 
Radcliffe Funeral Home in La Grange, with burial in Valley 
of Rest Cemetery. The Rev. Tony Rose and the Rev. John 
Kerce officiated.

Visitation was Friday.

Pallbearers were Hillis Jones, Dick Meers, Joe Simmons, 
Jon Simon, Dale Ike, Al Newton, Johnny Steele and Ed Prather.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the 
form of contributions to his church's building fund or 
Hospice of Louisville.
