ALICE RICE

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 23,
from the home at Rock House for Mrs. Alice Johnson Rice, 90, one of
the county's oldest residents and best-beloved women.

Death occurred at midnight Tuesday, November 20, 1951 after an
illness of several months.

Born in Pike County September 12, 1861, she was the daughter of the
late William and Arminta Johnson.

She was widely known throughtout this section, having spent most of
her life at Rock House. An outstanding member of her community, she
was loved and respected by her neighbors and many friends.

She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church and her life was an
example of Christian devotion to her church and unselfish service
to others.

She was married to Clinton Rice, who preceded her in death three
years ago.

Surviving are seven children: four daughters, Mrs. Maude Colvin,
Dayton, Tenn., Mrs. Emma Vance, Jacksonville, Florida, Mrs. Grace
Preston, Hillsboro, Ohio, Mrs. Erie Nichols, Marion, Ohio; three
sons, Dr. D. B. Rice, Center, Texas, Mose and Crate Rice, Rock
House. A sister, Mrs. Nora Horn, and a brother Mason Johnson, both
of Rock House also survive. Surviving also are twenty- five
grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-
grandchild.

Services were conducted by Rev. C. C. Hall and Rev. Claude Preston.
Songs were by the Toms Creek Quartet.

Burial was in the family cemetery at Rock House under the direction
of the Paintsville Funeral Home.
