DENNIS B. CONLEY 1875--1954 Well-Known Man Dies Saturday Services Tuesday For Mail Carrier Dennis B. Conley, 78, well-known resident of the county, died at his home in Southside Saturday, September 18, 1954 at 9:30 a.m. following a heart attack. Death occurred after an illness of several years. The son of the late Hiram E. and Clarendia Rice Conley, he was born November 24, 1875, in Johnson County. A veteran of the Spanish American War, he served as city mail carrier for many years prior to his retirement. He also taught Singing School in various member of several choral groups. He was affiliated with the Freewill Baptist Church. His first marriage was to Miss. Mintie Fairchild who preceded him in death October 2, 1939. Three daughters were born. He was later married to Miss Chloie Collins who survives him. Surviving besides his widow are three daughters, Mrs. Warrick Hayslett and Mrs. Earl McCloud both of this city and Mrs. Jim Patton of Circleville, O. One sister, Mrs. Dick Butler of Louisa, also survives. He also leaves four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a. m., September 21, from the Third Street Freewill Baptist Church by Revs. Claude Preston and Earl Rowland. Pallbearers were R. B. Harrington, Bert McFaddin, George B. Spradlin, K. B. Williams, Jack Van Hoose, Howard Vickers, and Frank Wells. Honorary pallbearers were Frank Chandler, D. H. Dorton, Sr., Luther Lemaster, Hobart G. Conley, Ray Stafford, Don C. Van Hoose, Fred Adams, T. C. Meade, James V. Trimble, and Charley Williams. Burial was in the Wells Cemetery under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home.
