John Schultz - born 1882 in Krizouaves, Czechoslavakia. John traveled to the United States with his family and settled in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.  In 1889, the historic "Johnstown Flood" (http://www.nps.gov/jofl/) swept through the town, and the Schultz family eventually John moved to a small dairy farm outside of Cooperstown, New York. He raised nine children with his wife Mary (Svitana).

Rudy  and Susan (Schultz) Vatovec's 1941 wedding announcement, from the Exeter Historical Society: "Miss Susan Schultz of Cooperstown, RD 3, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schultz became the bride of Rudolph Vatovec of Cleveland, O., Saturday morning, July 5th, at 9:00 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cooperstown. Attending the couple were Mary Schultz, sister of the bride, as maid of honor and Frank Korosec, as best man, Margaret Potanko, bridesmaid, and John Shultz, brother of the bride, as usher. The bride wore white chaffon with floor length veil and corsage of red and white roses, lilies of the valley with white babies' breath. The maid of honor wore pink organdy with pink gladiolas and blue delphiniums. About one hundred and fifty friends and relatives were entertained to a bountiful full course dinner at the bride's home Saturday evening after which dancing was enjoyed with music furnished by Alvin Bradley. Refreshments were served during the evening. Their many friends extend their best wishes to the newly wedded couple who are very popular at this place."
Edward Vatovec was born in Cooperstown, NY May 5, 1942.  He married Rebecca Anne Truex in Cooperstown, NY, September 23,1970.  Edward died March 17, 1999 in Hartwick, Otsego, New York, at 56 years of age.  Ed  was raised and educated in Cooperstown and was a graduate of  the Cooperstown Central School Class of 1960. Continuing his education, he graduated from the Greer Technical Institute of Chicago in 1960.  In 1968 he assumed ownership of his parent's farm and proudly operated it as an organic dairy farm.  He was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown,the Slovanian Benefits Society and enjoyed collecting antique tractors.
Francis Truex was born Allentown, PA February 23, 1908.  He married Beatrice Cummings in Pulaski, NY, August 9, 1932.  They were married by Rev. Edward P. Buttimer at the rectory of St. John's Catholic Church in Pulaski.  They were attende by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Nash of Sandy Creek. Francis died May 25, 1962 Schuyler Lake, NY, at 54 years of age.  His body was interred May 28, 1962 Sandy Creek, NY.  Francis was born in Allentown, Pa. The family moved to Sandy Creek when he was two years old. He attended school there and in 1939 he and his wife moved to Schuyler Lake, NY. He was a painter and paper hanger, and also worked at his mother's hotel.
William C. Truex was born February 2, 1859.  He married Stella Wade in Auburn, NY, October 1885.  He married Ella Blanche Plummer Victor NY, October 1, 1902.  Will died February 17,1910 Norfolk, VA, at 51 years of age.  His body was interr 1910 Sandy Creek, NY, Woodlawn. He  was the representative of the Hard Manufacturing Company of Buffalo and member of the Masonic Lodge at Auburn , NY.after being affiliated on May 28,1887 from Desoto Lodge # 299 Memphis Tenn.
Ella Blanche (Plummer) Truex was born in Orwell, NY September 6, 1881.  She married William C. Truex in Victor NY, October 1, 1902.  She was married to George Edwin Taylor in Alexander Bay, NY, August 18, 1915 by William J. Hancock (minister). She married Elmer Peter Miller June 1, 1928.   Grandma Miller as she was called, in her later years spent early life in Orwell and Lacona, where her father operated the Plummer Hotel on Salina Street for many years. She was operating the Schuyler Lake Hotel at the time of her death. Census for 1920 reports she was living in Cooperstwon with her second husband,George E. Taylor who was a linotype operator and she was a
telephone operator. Blanche died July 1, 1964 Herkimer Hospital, at 82 years of age.  Her body was interred 1964 Sandy Creek, NY, Woodlawn.
Schuyler Lake Hotel--one of the earliest families in theTown of Exeter was the Tunnicliff family. John Tunnicliff, Sr. emigrated from England in the mid. 18th century and eventually settled on a grant of land in the town. His son, Richard Tunnicliff built the Schuyler Lake Hotel in 1825 as well as the store next door in 1826.  He was the first postmaster.  There was a large hotel shed across the street. The first person to run the hotel was Eliphalet Brockway. Others who have owned or managed, David Sprague. J. Ward. Lucuis Veber, P. Clark, Calvin Christman, Wellington Zoller, Henry Dyer, Lyle Dyer & Fred Roberts. Since prohibition it has been owned by the same family (1934).  Elmer Miller,Blanche Miller and presently by her grandson, James Truex.
