Untitled Poem
by Sri Jibanananda Das, The lonely Poet (1899-1954)
He was a Bengali poet who didn't get much accomplishment when he was alive. His poems were not of contemporary style. so he suffered great criticisms. But it is now that he is accredited for his works. yet another example of a genius who fought against human prejudices !
Here is an Unpublished English Manuscript of Jibanananda das...
I have heard that her lips are sweet
Her lips are sweet and red
But still those lips I cannot kiss
They flicker in my head!I have heard that here tresses are soft
Her tresses are soft and dark
But still I cannot play with them
So deep beyond my mark.!I have heard that her eyes are cool
Her eyes of dew and star
But still I cannot gaze in them
They are remove so far.!I have heard that her soul is deep
Her soul of rainbow light
But still she remains a rosy dawn
Beyond these spheres of night.!
Here is another masterpiece. This is a rough translation of one of his Bengali poems.
"The two small dark hands of
the clock slowly
Urge us to move towards
The silence of he soil and grass
Our courage, resolve ,love
Will never move towards it
Still the footprints move towards it
with desolate Trust."-collected by Ms.Chandra
