The Wife's 88 5.0L Mustang LX Convertable |
|
|
|
88 Ford Mustang LX Convertable. (The latest addition to the stable) Engine: Stock and Original 5.0L . Transmission: Stock and Oringinal AOD. Rear End: 8.8" Tracktion Lock w/2.73 Gears. Suspension:Stock. Brakes: Stock. Wheels: Stock 10 Hole Rims. Tires: Stock Size. Exhaust: Updated with 2-1/2" Flowtech Intermediate Pipes, DnyoMax Super Turbo Mufflers, and Flowmaster LX Stainless Steel tipped Tail Pipes. (Next is the X-Crossover and converters.) Fixes That Need to Be Done: New Fan Clutch (done on Nov 2007), install a new heater core w/restrictor, install the Radiator Hose Kit (P/N: M-6052-B), Axle bearings/seals (P/N: M-1225-B), rebuild the Tracktion Lock with the Cobra Kevlar clutches pack (P/N: M-4700-C) Upcoming Mods: Continue the upgrade the stock Exhaust system. I hear a buzzing from the original converters, so I think they are on there last legs. I have the 2-1/2" X-Pipe (It's just like the H-Pipe, just with at X-Cross-over) and California legal Magnaflow converters. Hopefully the Speed Density Fuel Injection system will be able to work with the upgrades. For the Chassis, I will install Maximum Motor Sport Strut Tower Brace and 4 Point K-Member Brace, Edelbrock Tubular Subframe Connectors, and EBC Pads and front rotors. I will keep the mods to a minimum, because my goal is to keep it very close to stock. |

Stock, Original 5.0L Engine. My goal is to keep the engine stock, but I was thinking of polishing the valve covers. |

The First Modification, Exhaust, November 2007: |

I upgrade the Exhaust system with 2-1/2" Flowtech mandrel bent Intermediate pipes (P/N: 53609FLT), 2-1/2" DynoMax Super Turbo Mufflers (P/N: 11784), and Flowmaster LX 2-1/2" mandrel bent tail pipes with stainless steel tips (P/N: 15814). I do have a new Pipes Mustang 5.0L X-Pipe but I will have to weld in new Converters before I install the X-pipe. Looking at it carefully, it looks like I will have to do a good amount of cutting and welding to get the converters mount correctly. |

It was bear to get the tail pipes lined up correctly and the same distance fron the rear bumper, but I was able to complete that task. Next is the X-Crossover and converters.
Note: Flowmaster list two part number for tail pipes for the LX Mustang. The tail pipe have different bends. The steel pipes are for a center outlet muffler and the stainless steel tiped pipes are for an offset muffler outlet. Make sure you have the correct mufflers and tail pipes. |

On December 29, 2008, I pulled off the worn out Blue convertable top. The color of the old blue top was a blue/green and it was ugly. It made the Mustang look like a Pimp car.The rear window had seperated from the top and was bouncing around and the top had little holes in the material. The blue top was not original. It was the 88 LX's second top. The original top was white. So I decided to put it back to white. It took me about 36 hours from start-to-finish and I took it apart three times. Nesx time it should take me two days (16 hours) to replace the next top. It does have some wrinkles in the top in three places. One on the bottom of the rear window and two on the sail panels on each side fo the top (you can see this in the picture). |
