japanese and hawaiian stars on ice 97

Reviews of SOI Japanese show:

"Help!" Now this more like it--I think this is Steven's best show number to date. No need for me to go into a Kurt Browning comparison thing here <g>. Steven was having a great jump day, landing some nice triple toes (according to Tamayo, he was a mess during the first show - he couldn't land anything). Good choregraphy and he got the crowd going, which is a real accomplishment in Japan.

Then came Canada's Adopted Son - Steven Cousins with "I Don't Even Know Her Name". I know a lot of people enjoyed this, but all I could think of was "This is a Kurt Browning number." I kept imagining how Kurt would look doing this number (for one thing, there would probably be more intricate steps in it). But Steven was fun and he was having a good day jumpwise, landing a couple of triple toes. One thing that sets apart Steven from Kurt: Speed. Compared to Kurt, Steven is *slow*.

Reviews from the Hawaii show:

Steven Cousins: "I Don't Even Know Her Name" by Alan Jackson Prop girl left a whisky (?) bottle in our corner. Steven wore a blue cowboy shirt and seemed to  have a good time skating this number.  At one point he drank from the bottle, then spit the liquid out as he skated.  He also picked a woman in the audience and covered her face with his blue bandana.  Flirty and fun, no falls. When he exited thru the skaters' entrance we could hear the people backstage applauding and cheering him.

Steven Cousins: "Help" by the Beatles. This was a riot!  He came out wearing some kind of ripped-up looking shirt, (sun?) glasses, and skate guards. He basically bumbled around very comically. Did a lot of running around in circles (literally). He "gave up" after a while and tried to go through the curtain, but got pushed out again and his pants came off to reveal shorts and knee pads! Even as he took his bows he held his shorts out as if it were a skirt and curtsied. He really stole the show!

Steven Cousins-"I Don't Know Her Name"- he was awesome!! He was brilliant, the whole audience, I think, fell in love with him. He doubled, I think, one jump. But the audience did NOT seem to care.

Up next was the gregarious Steven Cousins, skating to "Help" by the Beatles. The consumnate performer, he got the audience cracking up, especially when he ripped off his pants and started to skate with his boxers. The guy or lady that was sitting on ice-level also enjoyed it because during the program he made fun of them!! (Of course, he was kidding).
