| The first step to stop cutting, is realizing you need to talk instead of cut. But you don't have to talk when you realize it. You talk when you want to, and only then. It's the hardest step, however. Some people believe that 'cutters' should not be allowed to have sharp items they could cut with. I disagree. Being banned from something may cause someone to feel weird, or stupid, or ashamed. Instead, the need to cut needs to be trashed, so the 'cutters' may have scess to all items. However, you do not have to agree with this. Anti-Depression Medicines may also be helpful, but I am a a naturlist, that preffers to not take medicine to change my mood. But Meds, may and should be used in some cases. A therapist, or psychologist may and SHOULD be hired. Some specialize in self-injury, so I would have to suggest that. Outside help is nessacary, but not often imbraced. A therapist, or a good friend may teach a 'cutter' coping skills. This may take years to learn and requires patience. Good examples are: Poetry, Painting, a sport, an instrument, or web-design. Though I have found nothing stating this, I belive a 'cutter' in recovery should take part in social activies to let one forget about some stressful things. The belive one thing you should NOT do is put a 'cutter' in a mentle hospital. As stated in the FAQ 'cutters' are not mental, and should not be treated that way. ~Abby |
