Q. What is SI/SH?
A. SI=Self Injury/SH=Self Harm - These come in many forms including Cutting, Eating disorders, drug abuse, hair pulling and body punishment by extreme exercise regimes. The focus of my site is on cutting.

Q. What is Cutting?
A. Cutting is where someone draws blood on their body by "cutting" it with a sharp object, it can also include in milder forms, hitting/pinching yourself until you are bruised or scratching yourself with your finger nails or biting yourself.

Q. Why do people do it?
A. There are many reasons, the following are the most common ones, but every person is an individual and no two individual cutters will do it for exactly the same reasons :
1.Self hate - some people hate themselves and their body so much that they don' cant what happens to it. They cut to show that they are worthless.
2.Emotional Void/Numbness - sometimes life gets too much for people and they find themselves sucked into the black hole of depression. Cutting is a way for them to actually feel instead of being numb.
3.Control - sometimes everything in your life seems out of control especially when other people seem to run your life. Cutting gives you something certai to control in your life, you can control when and how you do it and the pain it brings.
4.Release - It can help some people release their negative emotions, that they couldn't otherwise express
5.Pleasure - the adrenaline rush can be intense and some cutters like the feel of the cutting and the sight of the blood
6.Attention - sometimes its a cry for attention, its an outward sign of the inner turmoil a person as going through which they can't voice yet need help to resolve.

Q. It's dangerous. Why don't they stop?
?A. Firstly for many it's an addiction and way of life, most people start SI when they are young and secondly most don't want to stop. Smoking, drinking, eating unhealthily, taking drugs, driving too fast etc... are all dangerous yet people continue to do them - so why shouldn't SIers continue?

Q. This is sick - why do you have a site dedicated to this stuff?
A. So that other cutters know they are not alone and can get support whether that be for quitting or just someone to talk to or to know someone else has been through what they are going through. If you don't like the content of my site or agree with it then leave - its simple!
