No Games
A Sano and Megumi Fic
By Nina-chan

  "Oi, kitsune..."
The familiar words invaded Megumi's already clouded mind.
With a slightly frustrated sigh, she glanced at the door, where Sagara Sanosuke stood, slumping lazily on its frame.
"What is it now, tori-chan?" she asked impatiently. "Did you get into another fight?"
Sanosuke smiled sheepishly. "Well...the guys at the gambling place were becoming too smug. Someone had to put them in their place. So I did." he shrugged.
Megumi smirked. "Actually, it looks more like
they put you in your place." she replied tartly as she looked him over. His stomach was bruised, his eye was turning into an interesting shade of bluish-purple, and his fists were a deep crimson and gashed.
Sanosuke snorted. "Right. You should see what condition I put
them in." he retorted brazenly.
Megumi forced out a chuckle and shook her head. "Sano no baka. Well...go ahead and sit down. I'll just get all the supplies that I need." she got up and began walking around the clinic, looking for whatever she may need to treat Sanosuke.
Sano nodded and obediently sat down on the chair she had just occupied, whistling a satisfied little tune to fill the silence.

Is this how it's always going to be? Megumi quietly seethed as she picked up a few of the medicines that she would be needing. I know how he feels about me and I'm sure as hell he knows how I feel about him...so why are we still stuck arguing with each other? She risked another glance at him, where he was still whistling away.

We're just always going to be beating around the bush. Hinting around, but never actually getting to the point. Never saying anything straight out. We'll always just be playing games.
Sighing in aggravation again, she gathered up all the supplies and walked back to him.
"So..." Sano began as she started applying the medicine to his bruised eye, "I-"
"So...what did you do to get into this mess?" Megumi inquired curiously as she continued treating his wounds.
"I already told you. A few guys at the gambling place got too obnoxious for me. 'Thought they could beat me...baka..." Sanosuke grinned proudly.
"You really have to stop that habit of getting into fights constantly, chicken head. Sometime or the other you could get seriously hurt," she admonished somewhat irritably, continuing to tend to him.
sano shrugged. "Hey, I could always come to you, right?"
His words caused Megumi to look up. Once again, his words had an underlying invitation to...
something....Megumi could just never tell what...all she knew was that it enticed her.
"Who knows, Sanosuke? I won't always be here, you know." Megumi answered softly.
Sano's mouth tightened into a small, almost imperceptible frown.
Then he smiled again-that huge, brash smile of his that could grate on Megumi's nerves or make her melt inside-though usually the latter.
  "Well, you're here, aren't you?"
Megumi sighed. She was tired of this. Tired of constantly arguing with him. Tired of unspoken emotion. Tired of playing games.

Well, no games this time. This time, I want nothing but the truth.
She looked up and met gazes with his. "How long are we going to keep doing this, Sano?"
Sano's eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. "Keep doing what?"
"You know what's going on between us, Sano. But why don't we ever say anything? I'm tired of it, Sagara. I want to stop playing games. I want it to stop. I want it to stop
now."
"So...what do you want, fox?" Sanosuke smiled mischievously as he leaned forward, tilting his face slightly to the side.
Megumi smiled softly. "I think you know what I want, Sanosuke. I want
this." she clasped his neck and pressed her lips against his.
She grinned inwardly as she felt Sanosuke respond to her kiss feverishly. She finally got what she wanted.

No games this time. Only the truth.
  No games.
