Look at this playground and realize how many children have nowhere else to play, but here. Many children come up here and have to deal with so many issues that they normally wouldn't have to because the police do nothing about the terrible situations. The condition has quickly gone downhill since the city has lost interest in patrolling our neighborhood. It is really unfair, when we were children, we did not have the problem of disintergrating playground equipment, why on Earth should our children have to? I have been a resident of the 5th Ward section of Greensburg, for twenty years and although, we have had our share of problems in the playground I think that if we improved it's appearence and safety factor, we could have a beautiful place for the children to play! |

As a resident and a employee of this neighborhood, I would love to see it improved for the community. A community that is rich in hisotry and I hope we still have pride. There used to be a swing here. |
|
|
|
|
|
* One Swing for bigger children, there used to be two, but someone broke one and and they never replaced it, thinking that the children wouldn't want a new one.
* Two bent and broken baby swings that are on their last wings. I think they have not been replaced for 5 years.
* One basketball hoop. The other was torn down after a bad dealing with bad people from other neighborhoods were selling drugs on the court in 1992 or 1994.
* A hopscotch court painted on the pavment where a pavilion used to stand. The pavilion hasn't been there for over 15 years.
* A jungle gym, that is missing one sliding board and has a big piece of plywood bolted to the bars so that children will not fall out of the open hole. Not to mention the endless list of obsenities grafittied all over it by bigger children who would stay off of the equipment for smaller children, if the police would walk a beat around the playground. |
