How will I be graded?
Evaluation:

Attendance                          50%
Class Participation             20%
Homework and quizzes       20%
Mid Term & Final Exam   10%

Explanation of the evaluation:

Attendance: Students who come to class five minutes late, will receive a "late" mark. Students who get three or more late marks, will receive one absent. Five or more absences will result in a "Failing" grade.

Class Participation: Students should bring the class materials to every class. These include: the course textbook, pens/pencils/erasers, a pocket dictonary and a small notebook. Participation also means your log-in attendance on our class blog. Students who often post comments, give feedback to others, will recieve a higher grade.

The following items are
banned from the classroom: cell phones, iPods, CD/ MP3 players, snacks and drinks.
Why are these things banned from our classroom?
If
your teacher was eating snacks, drinking juice, playing on his/her cell phone, would you be a happy student? Probably not.
Students who
forget the course materials, bring things which disrupt others, sleep in class, speak in Japanese (unless permitted by the teacher), will receive a lower grade.

Homework and quizzes: Students must complete all homework assignments and quizzes before the next class. All assignments are to be posted on the class blog.

For reading homework, be sure to check the website for questions related to the reading. You must answer all questions fully.

Homework handed in late will not be marked.

Students who are absent can make up the homework
before the next class.
Students who do not finish the homework or quizzes will receive a lower grade.

Exams: The mid term exam will be after Unit 10. The final exam will be after Unit 20. Students who are absent on these test dates can take the tests on the re-make exam date (after the sememster is finished).
The mid term exam will test Units 1-10. The final exam will test Units 11-20. Be sure to review your notes!
