There's something mysterious and special about night time. The cooling comfort that the darkness brings. I don't know about you, but all of my fondest memories have taken place at night. Overhead the beautiful and magical moon hung in the sky, watching over in an omnicient yet gentle way. The moon, luminant and lovely, provides a soft glow that gives off just enough light to be able to see, but does not burn your retinas like the sun. It's a beauty that you can admire for as long as you want. The moon does not scorch your skin when you bask in it's glow. People often joke about the moon's effects on our behavior. For example, the word "lunatic". One of my favorite childhood memories is when my grandpa and I would howl at the moon pretending that we were somehow compelled by it, like wild creatures. But maybe there is some truth to the myths.Everyone knows that the moon is responsible for pulling the tides of the ocean, as well as the behavioral patterns of many animals. We being two-legged animals composed of mostly water ourselves, what makes us think that we are beyond the moon's gravitational forces? Something to ponder..
I'm not trying to suggest that you give up your religion and start grovelling before the moon or anything. I just think that the moon deserves a little more credit. After all, if it weren't for the moon, the earth would dry up, crops wouldn't grow, and certain animals wouldn't know what to do. There would be no dawn, no dusk, no sunrise, or sunsets. So next time you happen to look up at the night time sky, give the man in the moon a lil wink, and maybe he'll shine some lunar luck your way ::)

"Waxing" means growing and "waning" means shrinking. One appropriate definition of "gibbous" is "swollen on one side."
