| ok, interesting story that i thought i'd share. last spring i decided to take a drawling class at college since i wanted to get better at drawling. i knew i had trouble with positionings and proportions, basic layout stuff. so i took the class and during that time i learned two things: 1) i suck at layouts.. no, wait, that doesn't count, i already knew that. ummm, oh, yeah. i learned that if i can't draw something, draw around it. in other words, use artistic liscence to focus on what i'm good at and leave out the stuff that sux. 2) throughout the course of the class, i learned to hate drawling. it really sucked because i really do like drawling, but for the entire semester i only drew one or two pics that weren't for class, and those were at the beginning of the semester. i'm just starting to get over the dislike the class instilled in me, so hopefully i'll be able to start drawing (<--correctly spelled for once) and practicing more. which brings me to today's picture. i was thumbing through the august issue of shounen jump that i bought last week and there was a tutorial on how to draw yugi from yugioh, a manga by Takahashi Kazuki (actually, it's yamiyugi, not yugi), and i thought 'what the hey, i'll give it a try'. bad thought. i'm really out of practice and need to work a lot harder at getting better. oh, the picture (the one above) isn't exactly the same as the one in the tutorial (obviously, since i can't ever copy exactly unless i'm tracing and even then i still screw up). the tutorial had yami wearing his outfit from season one with the jacket and all. but i prefer the later outfits that show off yugi's arms (i just have a thing for thin but toned arms... mmmm... *goes to get bucket to catch the drool*). sooo, i tried to draw the outfit he's wearing on one of the card game booster packs that i have. only i couldn't do all the buckles, so... yeah. anyways, that's what i came up with. i could have cleaned up the scan a bit with photoshop but i didn't bother. i'm sure i could have done better at drawing it... maybe... prolly not. *sighs* i'll keep working. the important thing is that i'm starting to feel like drawling again, right? |
