| Tracklist: 1. Time to Say Goodbye (English/Italian Version) (featuring Andrea Bocelli) 4:04 2. Time to Say Goodbye (English Version) 4:04 3. Time to Say Goodbye (Spanish Version) 4:04 You can imagine the look on my face after I saw this on EBAY. The starting bid was $5.99 but quickly rose tremendously. Its auction closed at a whopping $135! But that was in 2001. In the following year, I got one second hand for way less than that. Needless to say, it must have been a blessing to have three versions of Time to Say Goodbye available nowhere else...especially if sung in two different languages. We first get a bilingual version (!), sung in half English (by Sarah B) and the rest in Italian (by you know who). The English Version is probably better than even Sarahs Intimate Version, clearly because I understand English (DUH!). Whoever co-wrote the English translation did a wonderful job, because it almost clearly sounds like exactly what the original lyrics mean. Before I continue, I had to write them down for your private enjoyment. Time to Say Goodbye (English Version) When I am alone, I sit and dream, but when I dream, the words are missing. Yes, I know that in a room so full of light and all the light is missing When I dont see you with me, with me. Throw up the windows. Bring the sun to my room through the door youve opened. Close inside of me the light you see that you let in the darkness. Time to say goodbye. Horizons Ill never find when I brighten a room without a light of my own.* With you I will go on ships over seas that I now know, No, no, dont exist anymore. Its time to say goodbye. When you are so far away, I sit alone and dream of the horizon. And I know that you are here with me, with me, Building bridges over land and sea. Shine a blinding light for you and me to see, for us to be. Time to say goodbye. Horizons Ill never find when I brighten a room without a light of my own.* With you I will go on ships over seas that I now know, No, no, dont exist anymore. Its time to say goodbye. So with you I will go on ships over seas that I now know, No, no, dont exist anymore. Its time to say goodbye. So with you I will go... * This is almost what this line sounds like, but just couldnt get that part of the line. Now, then, as I was saying, this version does last 4:04. Sarah performed this version on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee in 1998, during which Gifford still worked with Regis Philbin (host of the hugely popular Who Wants to Be a Millionaire). Bocelli irritated me on his behalf because he never sang the song in English!! He did sing it in Spanish, as does Sarah on her version, which concludes this non-commercial American release of TTSG. The background vocals support this even better than Bocellis ever did, because his only has female vocalists singing background, not himself. Given the authenticity of these three versions and the fact that these versions will never be available elsewhere, this is probably the single best item of Sarahs I ever managed to acquire. Even if I were to have gotten A Question of Honour in 9-track promo CD form, that probably would have been nothing compared to this, interview or not. I like to pair this baby with my own copy of the original single of TTSG. |
