Ms. Teresa’s Kindergarten Class

All of students work is expected to be completed on the day it is assigned.

 

 

 

Monday:

  • Students will be broken into groups and given an introduction to the five senses.
  • Items will be placed in front of students for them to experiment.
  • Students are to play the role of “detective” and gather clues to how the five senses relate to the world around them.
  • Taste will be the first sense that students will encounter.
  • Items such as sugar, salt, lemons etc. will be placed in front of students to begin their detective work.
  • Students will draw a picture of what they experienced with taste.

 

Tuesday:

  • Students Return to their groups.
  • Students will learn about Touch today.
  • Sandpaper, cotton balls, a bean bag, ice, a rock and sand will be placed in front of them.
  • Students are to feel each object and discuss their experience with other students.
  • Then they are to draw a picture what they learned from the experience.

 

Wednesday:

  • Groups will meet at their assigned table.
  • Both smell and sight will be covered today.
  • Licorice, a flower, and an orange will be placed on the table to experience with smell.
  • Watercolors, a stuffed animal, and a bowl will be placed on the table to study sight.
  • Students are to discuss what parts of their bodies they use with both of these senses.
  • Each student is to write 3 words describing their experience with sense.

 

 

Thursday:

·        Groups will again meet at their assigned table.

·        Hearing will be the final sense covered today.

·        Each table will have a bell, wind chime, drumstick, a container full of water, and a coffee can with rice.

·        Students are to discuss what body part is used with hearing and how they use this sense everyday.

Friday:

  • Class will have a large group discussion about what they have learned about how their senses relate to their experience with their environment.
  • As a class we will visit http://www.arches.uga.edu/~andrea1/senses.htm .
  • Each student will make a poster representing the sense of their choice. Each poster should contain three items that relate to their sense. On the bottom of the poster they are to write a sentence about their sense.
  • This project is to be completed by the end of class and each student will share their poster with their table and discuss what they learned.
