Okay, the topic of this page is kind of obvious. But I seriously think that Dr. Daniel Jackson is one of the coolest people in existence. (There is the minor point that he does not, in fact, exist, but he does very clearly in many people's minds, and that's good enough. "Daniel Lives! will be appearing in the subways any day now, if it hasn't already.) He's smart, and funny, and caring; when Sha'uri was kidnapped, and later when Chaka enslaved, Daniel was willing to go to great risks to rescue them. (And he still hasn't given up on Sarah.) Despite all the strange-- and often sad-- things that have happened to him over the past several years, he hasn't become cynical at all. He still retains a lot of the idealism he brought to the Stargate program in the beginning-- then because he was a sheltered academic, but now thanks to the experience and wisdom he's gained over the years. Daniel isn't strictly a pacifist, but he's still always looking for a better alternative to violence; he's the only civilian on a military team, and as such he tends to ask questions first and shoot later. (Except, of course, that he occasionally goes psycho and tries to take over the world, which is equally cool.) In fact, he gave his own life, in a slow, painful way that made many many people VERY sad, to stop a disastrous bomb test that would have wiped out most of a planet. And then he came back, in a cheerful, sudden way that made many many people VERY happy.

And not the least happy were a number of girls and women (myself included) who vastly enjoyed the fact that Daniel descended naked. Because there are also some rather more superficial reasons why Daniel is cool. (Yeah, okay, Molly, I know what you think but I really don't care.) For example . . . first there was the long hair that gave him a bit of a puppy-dog look, and now there's the short, slightly messed-up hair that is just begging to have fingers run through it. There's the incredibly blue eyes-- covered by glasses, but the glasses are unobtrusive and actually emphasize the eyes a bit. And then there's the cruddy razor he uses, which leaves a slight shadow no matter WHAT time of day it is. Oh, and that guy was definitely working out while he was Ascended . . . yeah, stopping now. Also he wears a bandana, which covers the hair but is otherwise MASSIVELY cool.



Believe it or not, my priorities are straight; if Daniel were the same person but ugly as sin, I would still like him. I have enormous respect for the fact that the guy is still sane considering the sort of life he's had. I just think the whole shebang deserves equal consideration.

Be careful where you go from here. There's a lot of good stuff out there, true. But guys like Daniel just as much as girls do, and a lot of Daniel fanfic is slash. So watch out.
