The light shined on Jewy late Wednesday night as he endured a three set match against a feisty Fitzsimmons. Jewy won 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 as they went to deuce in practically every other game. After Jewy was up big in the first set, Fitzsimmons thrust his racquet hard into the ground. This seemed to turn around his game as he lost the next game, but came back to win the next set. Then, in a deuce-filled last set, Jewy pulled away, not easily though, and finished the then calmer Fitzsimmons. Jewy has to wait until possibly March 17th for his match against the #1 seed in BSR because BSR claims he has to study next week and then it is Spring Break. We will all look forward to that potential great upset, but right not Jewy looks outmatched.
NG complained about the matchup against the 5 seed before, but now he's happy for the long break before his next match, as he pulled away 6-2, 6-4. "The second set was extremely close, " NG commented. He pulled away, winning the last two games of the set to close the deal. "The smart move would be for him (Nowak) to come to the net and approach to the corners." NG stopped this by forcing Nowak to his weak backhand much of the time.  NG looks forward to returning home to Hartsdale to obtain his real racquet, get it restrung, regripped, get his wristbands and headbands, and a Iona Prep Tennis Team T-Shirt. The blister-filled NG had a final thought, "Overall, I think 720 B, (Dan, Neil, Sean, and NG) as a conference, will show they are mightier in the end."
"My match proved the greatness of the Irish race, " confidently stated a probably drunk Chris Healey. In the dominate match of the night, Steve Lomangino said Healey was "the best guy in the tournament", as he won 6-0, 6-0. Healey quickly put Steve down as the last match to start, but the second to finish. "I played like trash, " Steve told the reporters. "You can't win if you don't put the ball in play...we'll try again next year." "I looked forward to defeating another petty Italian," a much calmer Healey stated as he found out his match against Coach Spagnoli may be delayed until after Spring Break. There is a slight chance he may get his opportunity next week, though.
"I saw the match with my own eyes. Neil isn't better than Pat." Dan McCarthy may be eating those words as he faces Neil in the match of the week next Wednesday, as Neil disposed of Pat 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). In the closest match of night, a determined Neil Herrmann just put shot after shot back in play, going for a winner only once. His almost mistake free game frustrated the better skilled Pat McGee, but the long rallies often ended in Neil's favor. His athleticism was the key, as Pat ran him all over the court, but he was able to get to almost every ball. "Zucchini's were running wild, but praise Allah, " stated a possibly high Neil as he exited the showers. "You can replace zucchini's with another fruit (sic) if you want."
