| The Golden Twirlers were founded as a non-profit organization in October 2002. Nineteen girls from grades 1-5 learned to twirl, many for the very first time! Our colors are Royal Blue, Gold and Glitter Gold, which are the colors of one of our sponsors, Rescue Hose & Ladder Vol. Fire Co. of Curwensville. Our other sponsors are the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home of Curwensville and Wriglesworth Interiors, also of Curwensville. After only eight months of practice, the group began their first parade season in 2003, with impressive second place finishes in front of professional twirling judges in the Punxsutawney "Old Home Week" parade and the Philipsburg parade. Their music was to the 1995 hit movie "Mission: Impossible" by U2. The Golden Twirlers participated in four Christmas parades, winning first place in Northern Cambria and 3rd place in Clearfield. The girls twirled flag batons to the instrumental music "Sleigh Ride." Now, approaching the 2004 season, the Golden Twirlers boast a membership of 31, including six new flag twirlers, five feature twirlers and 20 junior twirlers. The group has also added two more instructors for the flag twirlers. Our music this year is to "Hey, Baby," performed by the Pennsylvania State University Blue Band. The Golden Twirlers are the only non-profit baton group in Clearfield County. All proceeds generated by the girls are for the purchase of uniforms every year as well as for equipment.
