Course Description and Goals:
You will attend music twice a week for the first two quarters of the school year. During this period of time, we cover the musical rudiments such as basic music notation, harmony, melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic dictation, and musical terms. We will explore several periods of western music history and a wide range of musical repertoire and styles, we will concentrate on individual musical performance, critique, and appreciation. Students will learn proper concert etiquette and develop essential music listening skills. Students will understand that music is a God-given gift to be cherished and developed. We will develop these skills and establish an appreciation for music that will enrich you for a lifetime.
Classroom Expectations:
You will be expected to follow all of the music classroom rules as well as the rules of Palmer Catholic Academy. Students will need to come to class prepared with all of their materials. All students will be graded on participation so enthusiastic participation is required. The students should respect the teacher, each other, and the instruments in the music room.
Materials:
You will need to bring a pen, pencil, folder, and a composition book to class each day. Students will occasionally have projects to do at home and those must be turned in on time. Failure to bring the proper materials to class will mean that you will not be able to participate and it will affect your participation grade.
