MRS. MORAN IS SUMMONED AT ST. ANTHONY'S Mother of Publisher Of "Belvidere Republican" Mrs. Elizabeth Dailey Moran, 1507 Auburn street, mother of Frank T. Moran, editor and publisher of "The Belvidere Daily Republican," died at 1:30 o'clock this morning at St. Anthony's hospital. The death of Mrs. Moran was the result of a fractured hip caused by a fall on the walk in front of the family home, April 20 last. She celebrated her eightieth birthday anniversary shortly before the accident, or on April 11. Elizabeth Dailey Moran was born in Brookline, N.H., April 11, 1849. Some years later her parents moved to New York State and settled on a farm in Annsville, NY. There the family remained until the Civil War period. All male members of the family, including her father, brother and two brothers-in-law having volunteered for army service leaving no one to operate the farm. Mrs. Moran and her mother moved to the midwest locating at Rockton to be near relatives. Mrs. Moran's father was killed on a Civil War battlefield during the Bermuda Hundred campaign near Drewry's Bluff, Virginia. After her marriage to Thomas Moran the family settled at Shirland and remained there for many years. Mrs. Moran had been a resident of Rockford since 1895. Mr. Moran died March 14, 1914. Mrs. Moran was the mother of eight children, five daughters and three sons, all of whom are living. The daughters are Mrs. MARY MCMAHON, Mrs. Catherine Creagan, Mrs. Maude Miller and Misses Helen and Margaret Moran, all of Rockford. The sons are Frank T. of Belvidere, Edward J. of Pasco, Washington and William P. of Mobridge, South Dakota. Twenty-five grandchildren also survive.
During her lifetime and until only a few years ago Mrs. Moran took an active interest in public affairs. At an early age she espoused the temperance movement and became a charter member of the Shirland W.C.T.U. She possessed a keen analytical mind, was a great lover of good books and choice literature and always kept herself fully informed on current events by constant reading of daily newspapers and magazines. She was for many years a member of the Woman's Relief Corps. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning at St. Peter's church with the Very Rev. Mnsgr. F.F. Connor officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. Friends are requested to omit flowers. |
