MARTIN CURRY DIES, AGED 52
Popular Veteran of Police Force is Summoned

Police Officer Martin Curry, 52, of 1135 West State street, a member of the Rockford department for 23 years, died at 4:10 p.m. yesterday at St. Anthony hospital after an illness of several weeks.
One of Rockford's oldest officers in point of service, Curry had become well known throughout the city. He had been stationed in the West State street district for many years. Curry became a police officer in February, 1917 and held star No. 4.
The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Curry, he was born in Beloit May 10, 1887. He came to Rockford in 1905, and prior to joining the police department was a street car motorman for four years.

BROTHER STILL IN HOSPITAL

Officer Curry was married Aug. 20, 1919, to Winifred Fish, who survives. He is also survived by two children, Martin, Jr., 19, and Albert, 17, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. James Wall, Rockton, and Mrs. Edna Holcomb, 916 Taylor street, and three brothers, John, a police officer, and Leo, both of Rockford, and George Curry, Michigan Center, Mich.
Officer John Curry is a patient at St. Anthony hospital, where he has been ill of pneumonia. His condition was reported as good last night. 
Martin Curry was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Bishop Muldoon council, Knights of Columbus, and the Veterans of Foreigh Wars. He served overseas during the world war.

GAVE PARTIES FOR PUPILS

A favorite of children attending St. Mary's parochial school because of the many years he spent on his "beat" at West State and Winnebago streets, Officer Curry had given Christmas parties for the pupils for the last six or seven years. 
The police officer entered the hospital Feb. 24 and submitted to an operation March 1. His brother was admitted fo the hospital March 3. Funeral services will be held at the home and at St. Patrick's Catholic church.
