If you've ever wondered what's REALLY gone on in the back rooms of Curry's field-house, the answer is Buzz. Over the past few years, Curry has been grooming the oversized miracle of nature, awaiting the day he would finally be ready to make his debut as the mascot for the Curry Yellow Jackets. Here's a look into the back story of Curry's own Buzz.
Born in the small community of Curry, AL, Buzz was unlike the rest of his family, 5x his natural size! It wouldn't be long until the young Yellow Jacket would out grow the Nest and his family could no longer house the poor creature. He was now alone and wondering the woods of Curry. It was then that the, at the time, CHS head football coach, J.D. Williams, found him. Buzz explained to him how he was born this way and was now out in the cold with no where to live. Williams jumped at the chance to offer Buzz the position as Curry's mascot, this would be about the end of 2000.
Although it would be a great opportunity for both parties, Buzz was out of shape and a bit rugged-looking. So for what seemed like decades to Buzz, he stayed hidden from society in the field-house, working out, being continuesly cleaned, and being made ready for his soon-to-be debut.
At around the entrance of adult-hood, Buzz finally reached is final height of 6-feet tall. He was almost ready by the end of the 2002-2003 school year. In the midst of Curry's 2003 football season, Buzz and Coach Williams discussed with Varsity Cheeleading coach, Shannon Freeman, about his debut. Together they decided that at one of Curry's pep-rally's, Buzz would be involved in a skit put together by the CHS cheeleaders.
The day came, and Buzz nervously awaited outside the gym. When the time arrived, Curry principal, Mr. Gann, described Buzz's emotions perfectly when he said "It's about time!" For Buzz, his time had at last come. The crowd went crazy, much to his delight. Buzz's mascot career had begun and, more importantly, he was free from the stench of the field house.
Buzz was happy, he got what he always wanted, to be loved and accepted. But something was missing, he was lonely. He had not seen one of his own kind for so very long, and he strived for someone whom he could spend his free-time with. At what was supposed to be basically a personal-ad for Buzz at the October 30 pep-rally, his call was answered rather quickly. The music changed, and in through the gym doors walked in the woman of his dreams, Queen-Bee. It was love at first sight.
Buzz now resides happily at Curry High School with his fiance. But at every Curry athletics event, enemies beware, because lurking in the corner, there's a 6-foot tall Yellow Jacket ready to sting at any moment.
